I was wondering if there are any Sinhalese living in Chiang Mai, as I'm hoping to find someone who could help me with basic Sinhalese language studies.

you can buy books and CDs about learning sinhala from many srilankans shops. try your local srilankan community area they might be able to tell you where you could get them

Yes I'm spending some time in Sri Lanka in the near future.

There is no "Sri Lankan community area" in Chiang Mai. Don't think there is in Bangkok either, for that matter ...

I already have books, but I would like to have a native speaker to practice with. Speaking from my own experience, you can't learn much of a language only with books/CDs.
