Family launch appeal to raise £60,000 to bring 22-year-old home for urgent medical treatment

The Mail article says "'Costs so far have been approximately £19,000 and it is approximately £1,000 per day, plus any treatment, X-rays, scans, and medication.'"

Bunkum. I wouldn't like to break both legs and several ribs but this guy was making his life here. Why should the NHS pick up the costs? There is no way he couldn't get insurance. You only need to stand on a street corner to realise that driving in Thailand is a risk. Sorry,

Rayong to Pattaya is a long ride on a bike. I live off Suk and I call it "death highway". There are accidents every day. People drive so fast. I would love to get a bike here, but no way. It's just too dangerous. Very sad for this young man.

Does anyone know which hospital charges 1,000 UKP per day.........or shouldn't I ask?

I do feel bad for this guy, and especially for his poor family who now has to deal with this, but come on people.....insurance! It's not that difficult. According to the story:

His aunt, Melanie Gamble, said: 'Unfortunately, Antony did not have any travel insurance because he was intending to live in Thailand and was told holiday cover would only last three months.

There are lots of different types of global insurance out there....surely something would have covered a long term stay.

Perhaps he is just another young, inexperienced traveler. He could of course buy health/accident insurance, but maybe doesn't know the ropes. Best wishes to him anyway.
