Being A Prude

Featured Replies

Who's Megan Fox?

A girl who's tonsils many guys would like to tickle.

Not overly special, in my opinion, but she is famous and has starred in several movies. Transformers 1 and 2 being some of them.

Who's Megan Fox?

(On TV I watch the news, most sports, some cops+robbers programmes. Never go to cinema, it's all in Vietnamese.)

Do you have Google in Vietnam?

When the Chinese permit it.

Don't think that Facebook or Twitter are available - I've made half-hearted attempts to open them, without success.

I'd hate to Google something like that, though, as it would then register on my Google profile and I'd get all sorts of stupid adverts. I keep Google for construction-related enquiries, mostly.

I watched it, yes it was very sexy, yes there were scantilly clothed young ladies, yes i am happy that Matt won.

But, as others have said before - turn to another channel. But put a ten year old or a nine year old who has been watching this programme for 20 weeks to suddenly not be able to watch the final is like taking the dummy off a baby. Tantrums.

Kids see worse on TV every day. And the people who complained were probably the people who voted for Rebecca and were pissed off coz she didn't win.

Prude? Yes I am in certain private ways - X Factor - no - the christina and whoever were just dong their job. And millions of viewers enjoyed it - let the sad, lonely ones complain - they have nothing else to do.

Did anyone complain that Robbie took over the whole Take That scenario? I could have....

The 'sexy' bits don't really seem to be as bad as violence (to me, at any rate) and showing domestic violence, or violence against kids is the worst type of thing that I can think of on TV (except for all this 'reality' TV which is absolutely mindless).

I agree with that, Humphrey. For some odd reason, sex is bad but killing and mayhem is okay. I won't even have a TV in my room in Thailand. It's not worth my time. I'm either busy writing or reading, or taking a break on the internet. I don't watch Youtube because it takes too long to load on the intermittentnet here in Chiang Mai.

Funny you should mention that.

I was going to bring up South Park which is now broadcast during prime time and is ALOT more offensive sexually than Aguilerra. Portraying Satan and Saddam Hussein have homosexual sex for example, including Saddam going down on Satan....funny but not for kids.

Then you brought up violence seeming to be more acceptable than sex......a South Park episode recently made the same social comment with a storyline in which the boys had bought illicit ninja weapons and one of the boys was badly injured....in trying to hide the fact from their parents, one of the boys was seen naked in public at the same time the injured boy was revealed.....the whole town was in an uproar, not at the injuries but at the nakedness. The boys learnt that sex, even nakedness, is a worse crime than inflicting bodily injuries.

South Park always makes snide or acute social comments through it's risque humour, however since it is so risque AND the real humour is above what any child would get, I wish it was on much later.

Living an isolated life in Vietnam obviously has it's good points.

I've never seen 'South Park' although it's available on the illicit download sites. I find that I'm downloading more and more old stuff these days - Carmen Jones plus Porgy and Bess being the two filums over the weekend. Plus a couple of dozen audio tracks.

(Even some from the eighties, which may add to the Cocktail Waitress thread - although I don't think Ian Dury was what the OP there had in mind.)

Me too, TV shows Steptoe and Son, Porridge.... there's little like that around any more.

60s music and movies.... sigh.. :(

If you don't like it, change the channel. 9pm watershed, bah, nanny-BS.

What is hard to understand with 'change the channel'? Any parent worried when the act came on could have changed.

I don't see the danger in their act - try to have some communication with your child...

The hard to understand bit, is in regard to changing the channel, as originally stated, I never watched the original performance and if I had, I wouldn't have changed over. No one in my household was upset, the wife thought it inappropriate, but was not upset.

The boy, safely tucked up in bed, would not have been watching in any case and I really don't understand the communication bit, however this is not about my child, but the influence these acts have as role models on those that could be influenced by the characters being portrayed.

The problem is, it's not only on TV Mossy, sexual images, mainly through advertising, are offered in virtually every retail outlet.

Day time movies and soap operas serve them up to all comers.

There's no short term solution but I believe social conservatism is on the rise as the religious, both Christian and Muslim, right wing become more politically involved and it may go full circle.

You might remember that Hitler enjoyed a good book burning; it seems sad that there's no such thing as striking a happy medium, you're always going to offend someone.

I understand the arguement that it is not only TV, but being bombarded from all angles, however, how many have the influence of such media as X Factor? I agree possible influence from Religious groupings, but I am not asking for whole sale censorship, just a sense of moral guidance and leadership.

As for the book burning, contrary to popular opinion, I wasn't actually there, however it is not an unusual occurance, if not common, for example Alexandria, Baghdad and the Mayan scrolls to name a few, but I do not understand in this instance the arguement regarding keeping everybody happy. Are you suggesting that if they sang their songs in anything resembling stockings and using provacative posturing, people would be complaining of the lack of it?

Nowadays, children spend way too much time in front of the television starting at a young age. Not good for their development. A lot of the sex stuff is more uncomfortable for adults who might just have to answer their children's questions.

Now that is all about communication, but in an ever increasing form and detail regarding age and appropriateness.

If you are the one complaining, I agree, turn over problem solved in this instance, however I believe you have answered my question in the second line of the above quote.

They might see worse everyday, but with such influence of the XF.

Instead of pontificating, what have you ( or in fact i ) have done to make a difference ?

Well, I don't watch it for a start,

I think you could take it as a given that if it didn't increase ratings they wouldn't be doing it.

Yes I agree, but without any kind of data to back it up on my part.

I wonder if there are any resource, data, polls etc that can significantly show a link to increased sales and stockings and simulated sex on a popular music programme?

Anyhow, I don't think any of this falls under the heading of "are you a prude or not".. It strikes me as just being in poor taste. Unless that's the same thing?
