hi.

me & the wife are planning on going back to see her family at the beginning of april. her passport runs out at the end of june. can anyone please help on what is the best course of how to get it renewed.

Do we get it done over there (how long does it take as we are only there for 2 weeks) .

does she have to have a minimum amount of time left on her passport to get from uk to thailand & back.

As we live in the north of england hopefully it would be easier to get it renewed over there than traveling down to london as her parents live in Trang & we only have to go to Hat Yai or could do it when we fly into bkk.

thanks

You don't say what passport she has. British or Thai ? If she has a British passport ( and no other Thai passport ), then she should have six months validity on the passport, at least , on entry to Thailand. If it is a British pasport then she cannot get it renewed in Bangkok as this is now done in Hong Kong. If she is using a Thai passport then it dosn't matter how close to expiry it is for entry to either Thailand or to UK, as long as it is valid.

sorry about that she has a thai passport with a with an ILR visa.

also how much more difficult is it than just renewing it to change her surname to mine on it , if we did it in thailand & how long does it usually take to renew in either case.

She has to change her name on her ID card first, which means doing it at the Amphur where she is already registered. I think she will need marriage certificate, and possibly other documents to do that. I'm sure others on here will fill you in with all the needed documents. Changing the ID card took my wife an hour or so, that's all. Then she can apply for a new passport in her new name ( but I think she must apply in person ). The passport should take around three days, I think. Again, others will correct me if I'm wrong.
