Cd/Dvd Unit In Fortuner Sportivo Ii

So I bought this Sportivo II version of Toyota Fortuner (1 year old) and with it I got the built in Toyota's CD/DVD player with a touch display. Other than disc player buttons it has a Navi button but that doesn't work. Says "Navi is not connected." Asked Toyota about it and they said it would cost 28,000 baht to add Navi. LOL

Now, what I would really like to know is how in the world is it possible to have an MS-DOS-style graphical user interface (we're talking early nineties here) on a device in an SUV car that sells at 1.4 million baht in 2010??? I mean seriously, who designs those things? And who approves those designs? And how come they don't get bad press over it? And, most importantly, is there any way to do anything about it? How to put that poor thing into good use?

So far I connected a certain device with a cable so I can connect my Ipod to the audio system and control it through the steering wheel buttons. I like that. Any other ideas on how to use / improve that sad thing and make it less a waste of space and more a useful device? Or, I know this is far out but, perhaps somehow change the GUI of it? Maybe install the rear camera and connect it to the display, does that work well?

To make it clear what I'm talking about, this is what the unit looks like (almost, cause mine has Navi button instead of "Open" and some other minor differences)..

Well what set up have you got, the one you show is the one they fit in the Sportivo 11. It has an open button bottom right hand side. Graphic set up above that, then Navi button. All work's well. On the left side there's also a set up for you to plug in your goodie's i pod ect. For a few thou bt you can get the rear camera fitted that also work's well. As far as the Navi set up go's yes that's a bit pricey but it's very good. Without seeing it sound's like you have not got the right one.

The features I find useful are music (from iPod) and being able to see names of songs (which I can't at the moment), GPS would be nice if I could somehow add non-Toyota's GPS functionality to use with this display, rear camera I think might be useful for parking..... And it would be great if there was a way to make the user interface less of an eye sore.

Now, I understand some if not most of my wishes are in the domain of just-replace-the-dam_n-thing-altogether.. However, I would like to see if anyone has any advice that doesn't involve such a radical move. And even if I would replace it, I think I'd just put an iPad rather than a traditional car unit.

As I said before I dont think you have got the right one, the one you show in the photo tell's you the song name, that's if it's not a copy C/D. Toyota use a Garmon set up for there Sat/Nav. Might be able to get one from them cheaper. But as there an import who know's.

Just had a word with my Toyota man, reply all Sportivo 11 had the same set up. Sportivo 111 has a different one. If you have got something that's different it's been changed. Question how do you change the C/D DVD if you dont have an open button??? Sound's to me like someone has had a little poke around, hence you think is crap, cos more than likely a cheaper one/set up has replaced it.

No no, you got me wrong.. sorry for not being clear enough. It has an "open" button, it's just in the lower right corner instead of middle, hence I pointed out the slight difference compared to the attached photo. I'll shoot it and post here.

Yes, song names can be shown if playing from the CD, but not from iPod.

Hello Digitalbanana i have ordred these from China ,and yes if i have ith on the same price ,then i buy ith local ,now i have ith on half price so i have ordred 2 for the price of one ,included the last new igo8 maps from full Asia and also East and west europe ,so these i can use on my car when i am in europe ,i have 2 pieces of gps dvd players for one price

Digitalbanana ,i ordered from the Chinese company ,and they send ith with the Chinese post ,to my place in Belgium ,and ith gos up €30 of the price ,so very cheap for me ,because they send ith in one box and ith was special insured ,even they give you the transport number ,you can follw the traject so no problems with these company
