I remember listening to that song with my sister when our daddy died...

bittersweet memories.

Sad songs? you can call me sad song Pats. I have a list of them. When I was a teenager we had a cassette that we passed around between friends and every week we would add a sad song to it.

How sad is that?? Pathetic.

The Air Supply one i put on toots thread is pretty sad. But, at the moment, I cannot place my elegant finger on a song that makes me well up.

Bread is right up there though.

But the worst was at my Dad's funeral when the music was Danny Boy. Or as they called it - The Limerick bla bla. can't remember.

They sang Danny Boy at my father's funeral as well. I share the bittersweet memories.

For me , Queen: These are the days of our lives

What a wonderful world, was played at my mums funeral, that brings a tear...........

'

This is a real tear-jerker for me.

"Im Abendrot"("At sunset") (Text: Joseph von Eichendorff)

Wir sind durch Not und Freude

gegangen Hand in Hand;

vom Wandern ruhen wir

nun überm stillen Land.

Rings sich die Täler neigen,

es dunkelt schon die Luft.

Zwei Lerchen nur noch steigen

nachträumend in den Duft.

Tritt her und laß sie schwirren,

bald ist es Schlafenszeit.

Daß wir uns nicht verirren

in dieser Einsamkeit.

O weiter, stiller Friede!

So tief im Abendrot.

Wie sind wir wandermüde--

Ist dies etwa der Tod?

We have gone through sorrow and joy

hand in hand;

Now we can rest from our wandering

above the quiet land.

Around us, the valleys bow;

the air is growing darker.

Just two skylarks soar upwards

dreamily into the fragrant air.

Come close to me, and let them flutter.

Soon it will be time for sleep.

Let us not lose our way

in this solitude.

O vast, tranquil peace,

so deep at sunset!

How weary we are of wandering---

Is this perhaps death?

I find tear-jerkers to be situation specific.

When I think of my ex...MJ's "She's out fo my life".

Eric Clapton's "Tears from Heaven" can produce some moisture at times too. I love my kids soooo much and I dread ever losing them as Eric did.

Not so much sad as heart warming, Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" can sometimes bring a tear of joy at the thought of such wonderful love.

This song was No1 in the UK when my first Daughter was born and then one month to the day my Father died.

I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Half my favourite country and western songs will make me cry if I REALLY listen to them. And, especially the ones played in a minor key. I'm an old softie at heart and understand why some songs were written. C&W are songs about real life. Real life sometimes sucks big time.

This is so cute it brings a tear to my eye.B)

Sounders, I think since you became a Global Mod, you've lost the edge of your bayonet charge. Your application to join the Territorial SAS, will never go through once this gets out.

yeah...I agree with the situation specific comment...depends on the mood sometimes...

but the Linda Ronstadt song with the Muppets that I posted some months ago and 'when I grow too old to dream, I'll have you to remember...'...always brings a tear as I always remember my grandma who saw something in me that no one else did...then I became an unruly teenager and broke her heart...

plus the tune is probably the most sloppily sentimental tune that was ever recorded...if you look at the video it has Ms Piggy and another muppet to the side blubbering with a laugh track in the background, a nice touch from the producers to say: 'yeah, it's ridiculously sentimental but so what...?'

'and when I grow too old to dream...your love will live in my heart...'

:crying:
