Thai Government Offers Bonuses For Farangs Marrying Thais

Some of you may be following with interest the topic (now being shown in the scrolling banner on ThaiVisa) of the Thai official proposal to restrict farangs over the age of fifty from marrying Thais. Old Farang, Young Thai: No-No

What has evidently not been reported yet, is that there is also a second proposal proposing bonuses for farangs under fifty who marry Thais from certain provinces considered sub-par in general economic performance. The bonuses to include spa treatments, discounts on venues normally charging double to farangs even with Thai Id's and residency visas, permits to purchase personal fire-arms and carry them concealed, fifty free lottery tickets per year, expedited visa services, 10 rai of land in a national park of the home province of their spouse. There is a one time cash payment of 50k baht, which is given only after the marriage has lasted five years, and resulted in the birth of at least one male child, with the stipulation that that child cannot claim double-citizenship, and will not leave Thailand while a minor, and after first completing military service from which they will not be exempt.

A secondary codicil to this as yet unpublicized second proposal is a general "farang license" for farangs of all ages not legally married to Thais, but remaining in the Kingdom more than three months per year. The requirements for that license are under active debate now, with some advocating competency in written Thai, some advocating voluntary sterilization, and others advocating tests of the ability to drive while drunk, or, simultaneously mobile-phoning. Of course all these proposals involve some large amount of baht in a Thai bank account which will be inspected, monthly, not yearly.

We look forward to all these upcoming attempts to balance out the obvious upcoming influx of immigrant Han Chinese into Thailand by the hundreds of thousands, as in Tibet.
