Women Of Rock

Featured Replies

Alice Cooper's the nearest you'll get to 'Women who Rock'.

Women don't rock - it's all poppish - Joan Jet; Suzie Quattro; t'other JJ; too sweet, not enough bite.

but there was a local bluesman who performed in the East Bay in SF who I was talkin' to at the famous Brennans bar in Berkeley one day who said that he didn't like what he called 'chick singers' and then I mentioned Bonnie Raitt who has dynamite licks including slide, leads her own band, etc and he said: 'she ain't no chick singer...whatchoo talkin' about?...'

well...not bein' in the music business I didn't have a clue, a gender issue of some sort...I didn't mention the Janis moment...my halo was obscured...

Linda Ronstadt & Bonnie Raitt - "Blowing Away"......oh, it's a music video. :whistling:

Generally I'd say that's true, and that's why i didn't post those obvious girl acts, but hey check this out and tell me that ain't rock and roll:

Skin from Skunk Anansie ..absolutely bloody awesome.. (ive stuck in her tamer stuff, cuz thats what i prefer)

^ thought about posting skunk anansies songs many times in various threads posted in this forum, but have always had the impression that their work would fall on deaf ears.

skunk anansie was the next i wanted to post

Not deaf ears! Skunk Anansie rocks.

Joan Armatrading....not sure if she's classed as rock, but what an artist.

Marriane Faithfull rocks.......

OK, I have most of Joan Jett's discograpuy, plus the movie.

But although she may be one of the best rhythmic pop girls, this ain't rock 'n roll.

The anti-establishment, intuitive score, <deleted>-you attitude is missing.

This is so with virtually all girl singers, and also a lot of male so-called rock 'n roll musicians. R&R is aggressive, destructive and inspirational music. It is live, un-impeded by record company profits.

I repeat, girl singers are involved in rhythmic pop, something that the record producers like to label as R&R, just to get the sales from that section of the public. But never believe the record labels - they are only in it for the money. Even Sun had to sell out to the majors.

Yeh shes gutsy. Love their music. Funny thing is how quiet and feminine her voice is in real life. ..but man..what a set of lungs! :D

its a ploy i tell you from the powers that be to stop me posting so many youtube links. anyway Ms P. J. Harvey.

oh BTW want to know from the female members of the forum about how they feel about and the stance they take on using Ms, Miss or Mrs ?
