hello folks......

been with my thai g/f for a while now, and am thinking about going back to england to settle for a few years....

she has not long graduated from uni here in bangkok... and is thinking about doing a masters degree in england......

my question is .....

if she gets a study visa to go to uni in england (which she should get ok, if all the fees are paid)..

she should get 2 years if she chooses..

if during that time we married in england... could she then stay on in england??.. or would she have to come back to thailand and then apply for a settlement visa???

and if anyone has any knowledge on study visas. would she be allowed to work ??

thanks a lot for any help...

Hi Andy,

If you were to decide to marry whilst your g/f is studying in the UK, she would first have to obtain authority from the Home Office. In order to qualify for this permission, she would need to have been given entry to the UK for more than 6 months and to have at least 3 months of her leave remaining. Once married, she would have to return to Thailand in order to seek a settlement visa, issued on the basis of being married to a Brit. Whilst in the UK studying at a bona fide institution, your g/f can work 20 hours per week (40 during holidays). However, any anticipated earnings in the UK cannot be relied upon for the purposes of proving to the visa officer her ability to support herself whilst in the UK.

Cheers,

Scouse.
