The Lanna Kingdom

Featured Replies

Lanna. In reality, myth, or legend....

There are some scholarly circles that insist that the historical region and kingdom of Lanna was/is a perfectly dealt dream of old historians.

What say you?

I know about Lanna (Laan Na - a million fields) and Laan Chang (a million elephants) only from the Thai and Lao history books. Never heard that people question the reality of it... do you have sources for that?

What sort of history material?

Wikipedia has a lot more credibility than the usual conspiracy theory adherents. :whistling:

More conspiracy theories?

Well....there ya go. Wikipedia. The ultimate and definitive source. Must be true then, huh?

It's a lot more definitive than your opening post which contains no facts at all.

# Garry Harbottle-Johnson - Wieng Kum Kam, Atlantis of Lan Na, ISBN 974-85439-8-6

# Hans Penth - A brief history of Lan Na, ISBN 974-7551-32-2

# Michael Freeman - Lanna, Thailand's Northern Kingdom, ISBN 974-8225-27-5

# David K. Wyatt, Aroonrut Wichienkeeo - The Chiang Mai Chronicle, ISBN 974-7100-62-2

There you go - all referenced at the bottom of the Wikipedia article if you'd read it.

Mine was an alternative query......as no one is historically curious anymore. Willing to accept the same old conventional pablum that's repeated over and again.

Hence I asked what makes you think Lanna is a myth or legend. You refer to "some scholarly circles": Do you have any names or references?

You means facts?

Usually not.

There we go. Who was it that said: Confuse me not with facts, as I have made up my mind already.

If it's true, why shouldn't it be repeated over and over again? Chiangmai is full of relics of the Lanna kingdom, Wiang Goon Garm being the earliest.. Go and see!
