PRIME MINISTER THAKSIN WILL LEAD HIS CABINET TO THE NORTHEAST TOMORROW

Prime Minister THAKSIN SHINAWATRA will lead his Cabinet to the northeastern region tomorrow where they will stay overnight in KALASIN for a weekly meeting outside Bangkok scheduled for Tuesday (October 4).

On their way, the Prime Minister and Cabinet members will stop in Khon Kaen where they will visit a community centre in Tambon Muang Kao (ตำบลเมืองเก่า) in the Central District. This will be followed by a meeting with private sector representatives from KALASIN, NAKHON PHANOM, MUKDAHAN and SAKON NAKHON at the Sofitel Hotel of KHON KAEN.

At 1.30 p.m. on Monday, Prime Minister Thaksin will welcome and host a luncheon for visiting Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz of Pakistan, after which he will fly in a helicopter to KALASIN. In the province, Prime Minister Thaksin will preside over the launching of the traditional long-tailed boat racing, which is an annual event to conserve the old custom and local wisdom.

Prime Minister Thaksin and his Cabinet will later visit the Dinosaur Museum at SAKKAWAN (สักกะวัน) Monastery in PHU KUM KHAO (ภูกุ้มข้าว) area, which has been confirmed by a group of Thai and French archaeologists as possessing the largest number of dinosaur fossils in Thailand.

At about 5.40 p.m. the Prime Minister will continue his trip to KALASIN, where he will stop by KHUM HUAY (คุ้มห้วย) Community to lay the foundation stone for the BAN MANKHONG (บ้านมั่นคง) Housing Project in the municipality area of KALASIN. The 86 families in the community were previously landless but later registered with the government’s poverty solution scheme which has led them to the formation of a savings cooperative. The villagers later successfully bought nearly four acres of land with a 20-million-baht loan from the Communities Development Institute, for the construction of their house. The government is providing 6.5 million baht for the development of public infrastructure at the new housing estate.

The Prime Minister will dine with the private sector from the four nearby provinces on Monday night and will chair the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning before flying to Bangkok from KHON KAEN at 3.40 p.m.
