On This Day Of All Days! Hundreds Of Militant Muslims Stage Mock Funeral For Bin Laden Outside U.S. Embassy In London...

You can't say the same about millions of radical Muslims.

How many?

There are approx 1,500,000,000 Muslims in the world. If radical Muslims and their silent Muslim supporters make up just 0.05% of the total Muslim population that would be 7,000,000. I'd say that's low balling it.

Sorry, you need to move your decimal point to the right.

And where does the one-and-a-half billion come from? I understand that there are about 6 billion people on this planet, so one in four is a bit ambitious.

I would have said move the decimal point to the left.... maybe twice.

You are saying that one in two hundred Muslims is a radical or a silent radical supporter. I think that is a sadly sceptical estimate, and is far too cycnical and unrealistic.

For the 7 million out of 1.5 billion - 0.5%

Out of the hundreds, maybe thousands of practising muslims that I have worked with, including ones dressed as fundamentalistd (nightgown finishing just below the knees, no fan-belt, long beard), none has spoken out in an aggressive manner, some have been a little hostile - because I've just cut the overtime? - but the only times I have been concerned were in Iran, during the Khomeini revolution, when the army were sealing off streets and opening fire on the shoppers (including me). Never had a real dispute over faith, but others that I know have done so.

The extremists are indeed a small percentage, but in places like the UK this percentage is growing rapidly, which is very disturbing.

7 million is a small number considering the Muslim countries where majorities of the population believe that any terror action against Israel or the USA is justified. It's probably closer to 10% (150 million).

Seems as the Orientalist experts are at work.

an unfortunate fact based on lopsided information from the media and bias induced by their environment. the percentage is most probably much higher among the population with very low education. an interesting fact is that resentment is not limited to Muslim countries, e.g. for several decades the "foreign hand" (U.S.) was blamed in India for negative events in the country.

something similar applies to continental Europe (across the whole range of people's education) but rather limited to Israel and not including the U.S.

Very low education? That describes the vast majority of people in these Muslim countries.

What sort of education might you be referring to? An Eurocentric all-standard-to-the-universe variety?:whistling:

An Eurocentric education is much preferable to one that teaches one to blow up anyone who does not believe in Allah.

Hey, if you only know one tune, at least play the second and third verses for us once in a while.

This might apply to the much bally-hooed Christian consciousness as well. But such observations would be moot if one doesn't have keen and objective vision.

OK, would you like to describe other types? Are there any? I mean, non-Eurocentric people (non-white) bust their azzes to go to universities in the West - and often excel. What is the alternative for them and why don't they choose it for themselves? Since I know you won't answer (you never do), I'll answer for you - Because the "Eurocentric" education is vastly superior. Full stop.

This may seem to be Muslim-bashing, but it is not intended that way. It is just that in many muslim countries the only education available to kids who wish to learn is the Madrasseh (Pakistan as an example) or Suria (Indonesia) where the kids are either day-pupils or boarders and are taught from one text book only - the Q'ran.

The teaching is often good - non-subversive and trying to equip the kids for a life after school. But there are also many extremists in the teaching profession who equip the kids with a fanatic outlook. Other examples are the Hamas schools in Gaza, the former Taliban schools in Afghanistan and so on.

I do not know of other countries, where Islam is not the predominant religion, that approach education in this way. Buddhist education in Thailand for instance (Isaan has a lot of temple schools) do not only teach religion.

Faith schools in many countries are given a curriculum of basic precepts of overall knowledge, not just religion, with which they have to comply. It is Islam, and only Islam, that has this completely blinkered view of what their children should, and should not, learn.

You must find another word for Eurocentric. Our north-American friends and the average Daily Mail reader from the Atlantic Island might not get that you mean them, but think you speak of France and countries with odd sounding names (odd for some North-American) like Hungary.

I'm surprised this bigoted post was allowed, it's clearly designed to be inflammatory and anti-muslim.

Bigoted? Only against supporters of a terrorist who has killed thousands of innocent people. :whistling:

Then you have a very selective memory.

Please post photos of the KKK or Christian fundamentalists carrying signs calling for world domination.

btw - the majority of Muslims who are not calling for world domination never speak out against the crazies who do. I guess they aren't too against the idea.

your claim indicates you have close contacts with the majority of Muslims. is that the basis of your "guess"?

Well, you're the one who dug it up from the 6 week old hole it had been buried in.

You're right, I don't have proof that the majority of Muslims are not calling for world domination.

I suspect the majority of Muslims are ordinary people like me and (perhaps) you... just as the majority of Christians are ordinary people who go about their business without burning Korans or predicting the end of the world.

All the Muslims I've met have been decent non-fanatical people... why, I even went round St Peter's Rome in the company of a Muslim Tungku from Kelantan! Apart from almost bumping into sundry cardinals and walking through a small procession which he hadn't noticed, he behaved fine.

Hey, if you only know one tune, at least play the second and third verses for us once in a while.

Give us a clue who you are referring to? There's a whole symphony here with broken strings, one constant cord and a cassette on continuous loop.

The choir is complaining about the music at Bin Laden's funeral?

I see from the web some of the protestors called for martyrdom. Rude not to oblige..............
