hi, im interetsed in applying for a tourist visa to uk. My bf is in the uk now, we were living here in thailand for 2 years of which we have sufficient evidence to prove. My bf just got back to the uk to study uni so i want to visit him. My status here is that I just got a work permit last week from my family business, I have adequate funds for travel however I had to open a new bank account last week cos my previous bank book got lost. Although ive been here in thailand for 3 years now, i just recently obtained a work permit from our family business reason being is that ive been travelling for the last 2 years and working in different places wherein im paid cash on hand. To cut this short, starting this week, I can show a lot of money in the bank on a weekly basis, plus a salary of 40,000 baht per week, my mom will put one of her cars in my name to give me a reason to return here, she will provide me cert of emplyment however downside is that records would show that ive only s

started working for my family business for a month and have new bank account. Any suggestions???????? pls help me

Additional question, would my mom's financial statements and assets and a letter for her sponsoring my trip be valid?? My mom has her business here properly registered, can she write a letter stating that i will share in whatever profits she will be making form her business??? Im worried cos although ive been make money for years now, ive only been officially employed by her for less than a month? Would that be a hindrance? What should i do?? Should I wait? As much as possible i want to visit him for xmas. Would my family business( small international school) be a proof of return? Hope Scouse could help me on this

You've stated that you have a work permit in Thailand which suggests that you are not Thai. What nationality are you?

Filipinos and thais have the same rules in applying for a uk tourist visa. it's difficult for both fil and thais to get to the uk and im aware of that. any suggestions based on your experience with thais?

You need to satisfy the visa officer that you intend to leave the UK at the end of your holiday and that either you or your boyfriend can pay for it. As you've already commented, the best way to do this is to show that you have a good reason to return to Thailand. To this end, you should provide the visa officer with evidence of your employment and proof of your status in Thailand. If you have a one-year immigration extension in your passport, then that will go a long way towards satisfying the visa officer that you will come back to Thailand. If you are worried about only having had your bank book for a month, ask your bank for a statement preceding the loss of your previous book. Also give the visa officer evidence of your relationship with your boyfriend, and its duration. It will also help if your boyfriend writes a letter for the benefit of the visa officer, detailing his circumstances in the UK and where it is intended that you will stay when there. Also include a copy of his passport.

Basically, providing that the supporting evidence in general points towards you leaving the UK at the end of your holiday, then the fact that you've only been working for your company for 1 month won't, in itself, effect your chances of getting the visa. Additionally, if you have previously held visas for other Western countries, this will stand you in good stead with regards to getting one for the UK.

PS. I used to be a visa officer at the British embassy in Manila.

thanks for the info. i havent been to western countries, i've only been around asia.... so does that mean that my 1 month employment history, adequate funds, and 1 month bank book would be enough as my proof that i have intentions to go back to thailand?

The decision will be based on the evidence in its entirety, so all the factors you mention, individually, don't indicate whether the application will stand or fall. A major factor will be your Thai immigration status; i.e. the longer you are able to stay in Thailand, the more likely you are to return there.

Don't worry about your age. From what you've posted, you are evidently educated, wealthy and middle class, enjoying a good life in Thailand. If this is the case, then I don't foresee much difficulty in you getting a visa.

Someone from an agency told me that I must have been holding a work permit for at least 2 years in order to apply in the embassy here in bangkok! is that true? on the other hand, some say it's ok as long as i have a multiple entry visa here and as long as it is valid for when i come back???

I would go with the latter. Just to reiterate, providing you can show the visa officer that you intend to return to Thailand, you should be OK, and one of the best ways of showing your intention to return is to have pre-existing permission from the Thai authorities to do so.
