I'm a UK passport holder and from Aug 2009-Sep 2010 I lived in Thailand. I'm now planning on spending around 8 months living in Malaysia, starting this January.

My passport stamps and the internet indicate I will get a 90 day social visit stamp on arrival. My plan is to spend some time getting used to Malaysia, then go visit my old homes in Thailand for a few weeks, then return to Malaysia. Will I get another 90 day stamp on return with no problems, and be able to repeat this? I'd like to make several trips to Thailand.

I do not intend to work, will have a fixed address in Malaysia (rent free too), and will have adequate funds to support myself.

There are a bunch of guys shacking up in Penang for years. I don't for see an issue. The cops won't hassle you, that's for sure.  Lovely country. Loads of cute Chinese girls that don't mind being out and about with you because unlike Thailand the association between Asian/Foreigner, she is not taken for a whore.  Try Sabah and Sarawak!  Get your duty free!

Totally underrated. People all freaked out over the Muslim thing.

Not much if any more expensive than Thailand done right.

Just the alcohol is expensive...

We lived there for close to 2 years and they never asked any questions. Do a border run every 90 days (not necessarily 3 months!

The only thing they care about is you working illegally, so try to stay out for a few days/1 week before you come back.

Indonesia is only a boat ride away ;) and Had Yai or Krabi aren't too far either.

Helpful info,

do different rules apply to my Thai GF?

Suggestions where stay, no island, lived on Phuket long enough. Not KL, don't like big cities, bars not needed,

do different rules apply to my Thai GF?

The first "different rule" would be that Thais receive a thirty-day entry stamp to Malaysia.
