Buddhist Lent

Featured Replies

My girlfriend tell me that she thinks the beginning of the Buddhist Lent starts on about 15th July, adding that 15th - 17th are holidays in which no alcohol can be sold in bars and hotels, she is not 100% certain but these dates are certainly marked in red on my calendar.

We have friends visiting on their way back to the UK, they are with us from the 16th - 18th, and are going to be well impressed.

Anyone know for sure?

Not 100% sure but it is usually the case, however you always find a shop that will sell you alcohol.

Asalha Bucha Day - 15 July

Yep !! they are getting quite strict about it now in our village they have been threating to impose heavy fines on people who do sell alcohol, they have started doing it on many other days too throughout year.

I don't like drinking at home so I can usually get served at one place which is tucked away outside the village.

There is always some one who will sell you alcohol ,or where you can have a drink in my little village.. regardless of what day it is rolleyes.gif

Maybe a good idea to get that fridge all stocked up before your guests arrives rolleyes.gif

I don't like drinking at home particularly, but if push comes to shove, and I feel the need, then I can always have a glass or two indoors.

I do feel for my friends, who are actually staying at The Sheraton, they are not alcoholics by any stretch of the imagination, but they do like to relax with a glass or two in the evenings.

I'm sure other tourists will be in the same position, they will want to respect the local culture, but may feel a bit miffed being denied a drink in the full knowledge that many on the locals are getting drunk at home or on the roads.

Such is life.

I have about half a dozen guys arriving from the US on the 15th Friday morning in Bangkok. Pretty much buggered for night entertainment and bars I am told but their hotel says no problem for guests drinking in their rooms so may rent an extra room and make it the 'bar'.

My office has a holiday on Friday AND Monday 18th.... whoopee!!!

Down in Pattaya, I heard from the staff at a leading Walking Street go-go bar that they will be closed.

It will be up to you I guess!
