Thais can vote. Non-Thais can't.

But here, it's all topsy turvy.

This poll is for Non-Thais only, so we can join in the fun and excitement of the upcoming election.

Choose your preference for which party you would like to see form the next Thai government.

I'd pick the grumpy option not out of grumpiness but because I believe that elections is not what decides who's in power. With that in mind, I'm not even sure which party is most likely to change that. We've seen which parties likes the current arrangement of course.

The question wasn't about who gets in power. The question is which party gets to form a new government, no matter what you think that means exactly. Odd that such a dry, matter of fact question lends itself to dissection.

It seems rather predictable that the Thai democrats will win this poll, based on the history of these kinds of polls on this board.

I've voted for the democrats because you gave no option for no vote.

Yes it does. But then that's you isn't it, master of predictable polls. :)

(Wait a couple hours, then answer this to give it a bump. <_<

Cat amongst the pigeons,

given that at this election i'm ineligible to vote (didn't register as an overseas elector in time..) I decided to vote.

The shock.

The horror.

:)

Not shocked at all that you failed to follow the explicit info in the OP about who is invited to vote in this thread and who is NOT. Cheers. Edited by Jingthing

I'm a Thai but unable to vote for five years. I took the liberty of voting here. Any objections from the peanut gallery?

You can do what you want and of course this isn't a scientific poll and can't be in this context, but this thread was explicitly designed to gather opinions of non Thais for a reason (because we often DO think differently than Thais). The fine points about some Thais not being eligible to vote in this Thai election aren't really germane to the idea of this thread. If this WAS a scientific poll attempting to gather non-Thai opinion, I can assure you that you would be screened out of voting here as many such votes would ruin the chances of getting a result that accurately reflects the question, how do NON-THAIS feel. Thailand is for the Thais. We all know that. But this poll isn't. Is that a problem and if so, why?

I got no problems.

Great!

So from now on, non-Thais only here please, for the sake of trying to get a more accurate reflection of the answer to the question in the OP. For the THAI opinion, check the local press. Many polls there, hopefully more scientific than this one!

But for the moment, I am an Australian.

I'm only Thai when that fact suits my purpose. And vice versa :P

So I am an Australian (true) who can't vote in a Thai election (also true).

Guess I'm in by a technicality your honour...

Your national identity issues are definitely beyond the scope of this poll. Let's move on.

Just wanting to say, that from poll first results confirm that Expats are usually right-wing...

As for me I'm a Taksin red shirt gal

Personally, I don't feel Thai politics fits so neatly into right wing/left wing boxes based on western definitions. For example, the documented extra-judicial murders during Thaksin's bloody war on drugs and Thaksin's clearly anti-Muslim policies during his power; those are hardly left wing policies. On the other hand the Thai democrats have brought forward many social programs, and those are hardly right wing policies.

Don't get me wrong, I get it, the reds are more against the status quo, some would say revolutionary based on their actions during Black Songkran and the Burning of Bangkok.

I do agree it is clear that over the years during the divisions in Thailand, a majority of expats support the Thai democrats over the Thaksin factions.

Funny guy.. if i were in your shoes i would have voted. You are Thai maybe not in upbringing but you got the rights just be happy with it. Id love to have a dual nationality like that. Wish i got bonus points for bringing Thais to Holland and raising and settling them there. :D

They would love to be Dutch with the rights.. funny life isn´t it.

I voted Democrat in the poll anyway. I think its the least corrupt party. But in the end most are corrupt.

I would vote for the party running under the number 5 banner, using the "anti corruption" slogan on their banners (though I don't understand why the slogan is in English).

As I can't vote, I'm thinking of offering everyone in our village 1,000 baht to vote for them.

That is Chuwit.

Possibly one of the most corrupt guys in Thailand. Owner of several of the larger 'Massage Parlours' and one of the more colorful people on the political scene in Thailand. I think he believes if corruption ends he will still be able to run the massage places AND have the police look the other way. Years ago he claimed he was paying 1,000,000 baht/mo in tea money.
