PHUKET: -- Phuket International Hospital is holding a “Warm Family Photo Contest” as part of its celebrations to mark upcoming Mother’s Day, held in Thailand each year on the birthday of HM Queen Sirikit on August 12.

Cash and other prizes to be won in the contest, open to Thais and foreigners but not to professional photographers, total 20,000 baht.

Entries must be submitted no later than July 25, after which the photos will go on display on the third floor of the hospital.

The prize winners will be announced on August 11.

The top prize is 5,000 baht cash and a one-night stay at a hotel. Second and third-place winners will receive 3,000 baht and 2,000 baht, respectively, and dinner at a restaurant.

The photo voted as the best by visitors to the gallery will win its maker a gift and dinner at a restaurant.

The photos entered in the contest must depict a family engaged in an activity together, such as exercise and traveling, with the mother figuring prominently and in focus.

Entries must be printed four inches by six inches and mounted on black cardboard with a one-inch border on all four sides.

The back of the photo submitted must show the entrant’s name, address and contact information.

The photo must have been taken within the past year.

Only one entry per family is allowed.

“We have been working on various activities to support love in families and children development for years,” said Phuket International Hospital Marketing Manager Piyarat Kulvanich.

“A couple years ago we held an activity promoting families using storytelling as a way of developing positive relationships within the family. Last year was about origami, the art of paper folding.

“One thing led to another, and this year the theme is ‘Mommy & Daddy Warm Family with Love’,” she explained.

“We believe that good families build brighter futures for the children,” Ms Piyarat added.
