Pardon my confusion. I want to extend my tourist visa, and I am in Surat Thani city. I can only find an address for an immigration office on Samui. Is there an office in the town of Surat Thani itself?

Thanks.

Yes there is, its in the main Provincial government offices in the back of the building

Thanks for that. I assume you mean behind the provincial hall?

Its in the Provincial hall, but the entrance is in the back of the building, its been a few years since I have been there so I am going on memory.

Ok, but Harry posted that it was near the river! If there is an office in the city I will find it.

I may be wrong. I know there was an immigration plice facility there a few years ago but do not know if it is the one for visas.

Please try to get hours/address/phone numbers and exact location for Google map if you can as we do not seem to have that location indicated. There web site seems to indicate only the Samui office.

We went a few years ago, sent on a wild goose chase by the Police (who are down by the river) on our search for someone who could process a citizenship application. Police sent us to Immigration (incorrectly I might add) and that was out in the main Provincial hall. There may be an Immigration branch at the police complex by the river, but the main one is in the Provincial hall.

Yes, the Thai website shows only Samui. I will try today to see what I can find. I am on a mission—or just go to Cambo, depending on how frustrating it all is.

They will not be open today - all are closed for holiday.

True words. I asked those fonts of wisdom, a tuk tuk driver, and my new friend took me to what he said was the immig office. Located on the river, close to where Harry said. Pic attached. It was closed. I will return tomorrow. If the office does what it should I will post the details.

Good news. There is an immigration office in Surat Thani city—and—there ain't no bad news.

location, location, location: 9.1319 99.3313 (entrance)

The immig office is located in multi-story white building, behind the provincial court in the government precinct (provincial court and provincial hall), to the east of the Surat city centre. Say "Salar Karn" (provincial hall), and any tuk tuk driver will take you there. Once there, drive around behind the hall and court, and you will see the building. It faces 'backwards' as compared to the court building.

There are a lots of different offices in this building. The one you want is on the third floor, lift or stairs. Exit the lift, and look left, there it is: "SuratThani Immigration" (in English). Inside are two small waiting areas, and two desks behind a glass divider. One desk is for 90 day reporting, the other for visa extensions. When I was there, the room was filled with Cambodians (I saw lots of Cambo passports), two missionaries from Holland, and one slacker Australian.

It was all done speedily and quickly. Better than I have experienced at HQ in Laksi. The woman at the extension desk has been doing this a while. No hesitation, move them through: "Please sign here SIR, kaaar". She would make an excellent den mother.

One surprise, at the end of the process, just before I got my passport back, I was handed a sheet of paper. I thought --frak-- more paperwork, but what it was, was a feedback form. How satisfied was I with the service?! This is the first I had seen such a thing. I waited until I got my passport back, and then handed the form back with all sections (speed, efficiency, cleanliness, and a few others) ticked 'good'. I made the suggestion that a sign be placed on the road, and that the location of this office be added to the immig website. If either of these things occur you know who to send the thank you cards to.

* The building on the river, near soi 5, is not the place to go. I did go there first, and was told that this place was the 'city hall' (I think that there is a translation confusion here), and that this was the place for Thai people to acquire a passport. Not entirely sure what, but the river building is not the place to get one's visa refurbished.

Ianatlarge, thank you very much for the details about the Surat Thani immigration office and particularly for the GPS coordinates. This enabled me to add this office to my -- still incomplete -- map of Thai immigration offices.

I guess the service area of the immigration office in A.Muang in Surat Thani is the province of Surat Thani with the exception of A.Ko Samui and A.Ko Pha-ngan. Would that be correct? Or has the office on Ko Samui been shut down?

Has anybody got the mailing address, phone and fax numbers of the office in A.Muang? Or has the office on Ko Samui been shut down?

P.S. I think I got the address of the office in A.Muang in Thai, will now work on the romanisation of it.

Immigration only lists the office of the Ko Samui office under Sura Thani.

Maybe on of the immigraiton phonebooks lists the Surathani offices in English.

The office on Ko Samui would be taking care of Ko Phangan and islands was the meaning (Muang office taking care of mainland residents of Surat Thani Province).

Thaimansweden, the position marker on the map of the web page you quote seems to point to a school. The coordinates given by Ianatlarge are for the correct location, which I have put on the map here:

https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=214923170432669428134.000465f03d84d91df360b&msa=0&ll=9.132775,99.331673&spn=0.006176,0.011362

Anyway, this does not answer the question of Rag, who did not ask for the location of the office, but whether anyone had been there recently.
