What do you think?

Of course, those that look for the Muslim boogieman will jump to only one conclusion in their desperate attempt to lay blame on a religion and fuel the support for grabbing other people's oil.

While I would not discount a link to Al Qaeda, in the light of the latest reports, I would tend to look elsewhere for the culprit.

The latest reports that I'm referring to are that the shooter at the youth camp is linked to the bombing in Oslo, and that he has been arrested and is a Norwegian man with blonde hair.

What do you think?

From what I've seen so far...and I just woke up here in Bangkok... the one detained suspect is a Norwiegian national.

From my personal knowledge I know of many extreme right wing and white supremist groups in Scandanavia. They have a pretty delusionary premise of an ancient white master race, whose rightful place as the rulers of the world has been taken from them by non-whites. They trace their spiritual ancestors back to the ancient Nordic gods.

Frankly they are a bunch of fruitcakes and have fanatical pro-nazi political views.

Another thing to note is that they seem to almost worship Rudolf Hess...whose body was recently removed from his grave because the grave had become almost a place of pilgramage for extreme right wing types.

I'm betting on them as the group that organized and did this bombing and the killings.

But that is just a guess on my part. It's still to early to really tell.

:whistling:

Big surprise. Islamic terrorists have claimed credit (but the claims have not been verified).

• Norwegian special forces have been fighting in Afghanistan for many years and Ayman al Zawahiri, al-Qaida's new leader after the death of Osama bin Laden, has been threatening Norway since 2003, warning that its participation in the U.S.-led military campaign against radical Islam in Afghanistan would result in an attack on the Norwegian homeland. Norwegian special forces operate in central Afghanistan, near Kabul.

Maybe because Islamic terrorists commit the majority of these hate-crimes? :whistling:

That's a pretty broad claim.

Perhaps I should have said a much larger percentage than any other single loony cause. There are lots of other hateful nuts that commit one-off hate-crimes.

By the way, I am refering to Islamic terrorists - not Muslims in general - and they certainly commit a very high percentage of terrorist acts around the world nowdays. It is no wonder that they are usually the first suspects.

A "Norwegian national" doesn't mean that they aren't originally from someplace else. Germany recently had a story about a bomber who was caught and the article kept refering to him as a German national but when you dug deeper you found that he was born and raised in Pakistan. But mentioning that in the article would have been too un-PC and we can't have that.

You are right of course. Yet, by ignoring what I posted, (that he is blond), we could still plant the seeds of doubt and look towards Pakistan or wherever else the Muslim terrorists come from.

The shooter is an ethnic norwegian

http://www.newsinenglish.no/2011/07/23/massacre-suspect-is-norwegian/comment-page-1/

After great speculation that Norway had been hit by terrorist attacks on Friday, police confirmed that the suspect they arrested is a 32-year-old ethnic Norwegian. It remained unclear late Friday night whether he was acting alone, or had ties to a terrorist organization. Speculation was rising that he’s linked to right-wing extremists, not Islamic terrorists.

The BBC is reporting he was an ethnic Norwegian. And held extremist Neo Nazi views. So some members attempts to link this to Zawahiri and others of his ilk seem doubtful at best. ;)

Sorry SBK, seem we were posting at the same time.

He doesn't sound very Muslim...

The suspect in the twin attacks Friday that killed dozens of people in Norway was identified early Saturday as a 32-year-old Norwegian farmer.

TV2, the country's largest broadcaster, and the newspaper Dagbladet identified him as Anders Behring Breivik, 32, describing him as a member of right-wing extremist groups. Shortly thereafter, The Telegraph newspaper of London reported the same information, citing Norwegian Justice Minister Knut Storberget.

In the link you provided, it speaks of many threats issued against Norway, but nothing about anyone claiming credit. Perhaps you have other links pertaining to such.

Let me make myself clear....I also think that the majority of individual, relatively small scale terrorist acts are committed by Islamic extremists.

But that in no way mitigates the wholesale terrorism of global powers.

Nor does it lead me to push for an agenda-based conclusion.....even if you don't, lets face it that some people DO prefer to think of the problems in terms of "Muslims in general".

I have removed one post with a photo. We need to know the source of the photo and if it is copyrighted then we can't post it without proper authorization.

Sorry about that. If that's the guy, he certainly looks Scandinavian.

From the New York Times:

American counterterrorism officials cautioned that Norway’s own homegrown extremists, with unknown grievances, could be responsible for the attacks.

Initial reports focused on the possibility of Islamic militants, in particular Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or Helpers of the Global Jihad, cited by some analysts as claiming responsibility for the attacks. American officials said the group was previously unknown and might not even exist. There was ample reason for concern that terrorists might be responsible. In 2004 and again in 2008, the No. 2 leader of Al Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahri, who took over after the death of Osama bin Laden, threatened Norway because of its support of the American-led NATO military operation in Afghanistan. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/23/world/europe/23oslo.html?_r=1&pagewanted=2

And so, another Islamaphobic thread peters into a discussion about the REAL happenings. Rightly so.

There seems to be plenty of REAL Islamic terrorist incidents.

Indeed.

But I didn't post about incidents....I commented on the hollow Islamaphobic threads that prevail here.

Why do you twist things?

REAL Islamic terrorist incidents translates into threads on those REAL happenings. Just who is twisting things?

Why does a white supremist with anti-Muslim views shoot dozens of young white people? I'm not doubting the reports, I'm just wondering why he didn't go into an ethnic neighborhood and shoot it up.

The BBC said he was a Christian Fundamentalist. I am sure posters on this thread are far too intelligent to fall into the logical fallacy of thinking that this tells you anything about Christians in general!

LOL

I started this thread because when I went to the story on BBC they had a link to the right about the suspected bombers who had been arrested on July 8th and I was wondering if there was any connection. What I didn't notice is that the link was from July 8th, 2010 - just over a year ago. So be careful when clicking on those related links. :)

I'd love to know where those figures came from (not that I want to argue with them!).

From the same place as UG's assertion that Muslim terrorists have claimed credit for the Norwegian massacre - out of thin air.
