PRIME MINISTER INDICATES THAT MINOR SHIFTS IN MINISTERIAL POSITIONS MAY BE CARRIED OUT AFTER THE RESIGNATION OF MD. SUCHAI

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has indicated that a reshuffle of ministerial positions might be a possibility after the resignation of the public health minister.

The prime minister stated that he will confer once more with Public Health Minister SUCHAI CHAROENRATTANAKUL (สุชัย เจริญรัตนกุล) within 2 days regarding the minister's resignation of October 30th. Mr. Thaksin also admitted that a slight change of ministerial positions will incur if neccessary, but noted that shuffling will be limited only to positions affected by the resignation. The premier also disclosed that he will arrange for all the adjustments.

However Prime Minister Thaksin noted that precautions and preventive measures against avian influenza will continue.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THAI RAK THAI PARTY HAS NO OBJECTION IF DR.SUCHAI WANTS CONTINUE HIS POSITION AS PUBLIC HEALTH MINISTER

Thai Rak Thai House of Representatives Wang Bua Baan (วังบัวบาน ) Group stated that since Dr. SUCHAI CHAROENRATANAKUL (สุชัย เจริญรัตนกุล) has performed his duty well as a Public Health Minister, the group has no objection if Dr. Suchai withdraws his resignation.

Mr. SOPHON PETSAWANG (โสภณ เพชรสว่าง ) Thai Rak Thai House of Representative from BURIRAM (บุรีรัมย์) province and member of Wang Bua Baan group has praised Dr. Suchai and said that he would like to see the avian influenza and corruption scandal within the Public Health Ministry eliminated.

As for the resignation of Dr. Suchai, the document will be effective according to the law and if Dr. Suchai would like to return and take the post again, Mr. Sophon insisted that Wang Bua Baan has no objection to the matter.

However, Mr. Sophon personally sees that there are many qualified officers who can substitute Dr. Suchai as Minister of Public Health.

DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER PHINIJ SAYS HE HAS NO COMMENT REGARDING PUBLIC HEALTH PORTFOLIO

Deputy Prime Minister PHINIJ JARUSOMBAT (พินิจ จารุสมบัติ) said he has no comment on the replacement of the Public Health Minister's portfolio. There were rumours Mr Phinij might replace the current health minister SUCHAI CHAROENRATTANAKUL (สุชัย เจริญรัตนกุล) after Dr Suchai's resignation.

He said he did not mentioned anything about the portfolio change to Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra as well.

MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND COOPERATIVES REFUSES TO COMMENT ON MINI CABINET RESHUFFLE

Khunying SUDARAT KEYURAPHAN( หญิงสุดารัตน์ เกยุราพันธ์ ) Minister of Agriculture and Cooperative and deputy leader of Thai Rak Thai party declined to give comments about the coming cabinet reshuffle. She said it is up to Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's discretion regarding the reshuffle.

Khunying Sudarat was referring to the replacement of the Public Health portfolio after the resignation of Public Health Minister Suchai Chareonrattanakul. However, she added the changes will not have too much of an impact in tackling the bird flu crisis as government agencies are working together in preventing the spreading of the virus.

PM ASSURES CHANGES TO BE MADE IN THE RESHUFFLE OF THE CABINET

Prime Minister THAKSIN SHINAWATRA revealed that there will be a swap of positions between Public Health Minister SUCHAI CHAROENRATANAKUL (สุชัย เจริญรัตนกุล) and Deputy Prime Minister Mr. PINIT JARUSOMBAT (พินิจ จารุสมบัติ ), following an intended resignation of Mr. Suchai.

The Prime Minister said that the upcoming reshuffle of the Cabinet will see Dr. Suchai Charoenratanakul becoming Deputy Prime Minister and Mr. Pinit Jarusombat becoming Public Health Minister. He said that Dr. Suchai, as a deputy prime minister, will still supervise work of the Public Health Ministry, as well as that of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.

As a result of the realignment, Mr. SURIYA JUNGRUNGRUANGKIT(สุริยะ จึงรุ่งเรืองกิจ) will only be responsible for the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Transport.

DEP PM PINIJ JARUSOMBAT EXPRESSES CONFIDENCE IN TAKING OVER THE PUBLIC HEALTH PORTFOLIO

Mr.PINIJ JARUSOMBAT ( จารุสมบัติ ) expresses confidence in taking over the helm of the Ministry of Public Health. He said he believes officials at the Ministry pf Public Health will accept him as a leader. He added that he is also prepared to tackle the bird flu crisis.

Speaking to reporters after Prime Minister THAKSIN SHINAWATRA's announcement of the new Public Health Minister, Mr Pinij said he knew nothing about his new position before hand.

Mr Pinij however emphasized that he will perform his utmost as the new minister of the Public Health. He also plans to work as a team with the Ministry.

He added that the bird flu issue does not worry him as Thialand had always find solutions in tackling bird flu very quickly and efficiently. Thailand had also been praised by the World Health Organization and countries worldwide in her performance card in tackling the deadly virus.

At the same development, Deputy Prime Minister SURIYA JUNGRUNGRUANGKIT(สุริยะ จึงรุ่งเรืองกิจ) has been appointed to oversee the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives while Dr. SUCHAI CHAROENRATANAKUL (สุชัย เจริญรัตนกุล) the ex-Public Health Minister has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister overseeing the Public Health Ministry. Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan still holds the ministerial position at the Agricultural and Cooperatives Ministry.

Mr. Suriya expressed confidence in working together to solve the avian flu pandemic as Prime Minister Thaksin had placed importance in fighting the deadly virus.

At first glance I thought he was leaving for health reasons. It seems it was ... but as was reveiled later it was to go to a better place. :o
