Ipad 2 Screen Repair

Featured Replies

Anywhere in town able to repair/replace on ipad2 screen yet?

I see some places overseas can do it for around 200usd; anyone tried? I'd imagine you'd get hit up for taxes on re-import??

Thanks in advance.

Take it to a Apple Service centre in Thailand. Do not see reason to take it to MBK instead.

I did. They said they will replace the entire unit at a discounted price. Figure replacing screen externally would be cheaper.

Screen is the most expensive part. I would still take the apple offer to be honest rather than a used dodgy mbk version.

Hi,

I got my iPad2 screen fixed at MBK two weeks ago. First I had taken it into Apple only to be told that it they could only replace the iPad at a 30% discount ie 12,700 Bt. When I asked her if I had any other options, she suggested taking it to MBK (to my surprise), but warned me that it would void the warranty. I asked her if they used original parts and she said that the good ones did but wouldn't give me name. No surprise there. I did a quick search on Thaivisa on my way to MBK and found glowing reviews for Tan Telecom on Lvl 4 of MBK, so headed up there. He quoted me 3,000 Bt for an original replacement, and showed me three others lined up for the same thing! He said he did about 10 a week. It's a very busy repair centre and seems thoroughly professional.

2 hours later I had a new screen and I certainly can't tell the difference after two weeks of heavy use. I know it voids the warranty but for 9,700 Bt savings I can live with it!

^ MBK, forget the name of the shop. Its mentioned here. Good job, 3k.

After many years of using only Apple I think i may be voting with my feet or at least trying out options.

Personally I find the iPad 1 impossible for much more than reading or watching a video (both of which are excellent but should be for 25900)........everything else, yes i think literally everything, seems to crash very regularly or not run in a fashion one might expect ie play videos properly, copy in forum boxes properly, store webpages (not Safari anyway and the others crash mercilessly) etc.

Guess what I managed to break the screen _again_.

I Thought what the heck I'll just get the official fix because the last one had some issues where touch would sometimes not work. Went to Apple dealer - no can do. I can get a replacement iPad 2 for 1,000 Baht off - WOW, what a deal! Not!! I don't really get it to be honest, I can get an iPhone accident replacement for 8k, but an iPad accident replacement is 12k?

Around the corner in Central KSK / Chiang Mai, a small shop did a great job for 2,500 baht.

^ Interesteing to hear they can be done in CM. Mine has some after effects as well - but maybe unrelated, home button issues etc. Do you have a link for the iPhone accident replacement details??

Cheers.

No link but if it's within the 1 year warranty you can get a brand new iPhone for your accidentally dropped/destroyed one for 8k Baht. I did that with my old 3GS. Took a week or so at True Move CM.

Apple sells accident insurance with new iPhones now - costs $150 and each accident replacement then costs $50 extra. Good deal I think, but not sure if or how this deal is available in Thailand. I am also not sure whether that new policy has replaced the 8k baht replacement policy now. Either way it's only for new phones as far as I know.

My iPad is fine after the repair at KSK, no issues anymore. I can recommend that shop.

^ which one is it, I need my home button looked at.

I was afraid you'd ask that... I don't know, I might check what the name is next time I am there.

If you find the huge iPhone accessories store, that has tons and tons of cases for all iDevices - the busy one, you'll know it when you see it - from there go into the direction of the front stairs and it's the second fix-it shop on the left. One of those very small 6 square meters shops. Sorry, terrible instructions...

^ from that, I think I now it. Has a blueish 'fix/unlock iPhone sign'?? I usually use a guy at airport, but only for minor stuff.

No idea. I think I've been here too long, I am now incapable of giving reasonably clear instructions on how to get somewhere.. :P

I used a shop at Airport for my previous iPad screen repair - bathroom tiles vs. iPad screen, bathroom tiles won decisively - but it was expensive, 5000 Baht, and I had problems after. KSK no issues at all and half the price.

Thanks Nikster; what are your thoughts on 'home button' issues - requires repeated presses for it to work, hard to accomplish a double press etc ... I heard that WD40 does the trick. Airport guy quoted me 800? for a new start button??

You know the Apple MagSafe adapter plug? It's magnetic, and inside are little pins that are spring loaded. Mine didn't work anymore and I figured before I go get a whole new power adapter, I'll try putting some Sonax on it. And... it worked!

I'd try it for a stuck home button as well. Sonax is a creeping oil, it will get inside eventually, just takes a while. Use sparingly.

My home button is fine.

There's also the Accessibility functions on iOS that allow you to put a virtual home button on the screen, as a last resort. My wife has it on her iPhone (not sure why as her home button works fine but she likes it...)

Cool, where to find Sonax in CM? Xanax is easy enough, lol.

Any hardware store has it, home pro or any of those little places ... anywhere that services motorbikes too...

Tan Telecom on 4th Floor of MBK replaced my ipad 2 screen yesterday. As described elsewhere here, did an efficient and professional job. Charged me 2000 baht and took less than 1 hour. I do recommend. Some more of their details on their facebook page including a contact number.
