According to Google maps about 6 1/2 hours.

Allow extra if you're travelling with women.

It seems a little long to me, even stopping every ten minutes for the fair sex.

That's down to Wiang Papao then turn west to Chiang Dao.

Comes to 273 km..

if you take the scenic route, it can take about 12 hours, without the fair sex

dam_n that is a lot further than I expected. I did in once on a bus/van from CM and thought maybe I'd drive next time. I do remember many curves and big mountains. Not sure it's worth a 6 1/2 hour drive for me.

thanks for iinfo.

Took the wife and I around 4 hours to get there and yes, many curves with buses going both ways. I happen to meet a tourist van passing a bus on one of those hairpin turns. Wasn't the wife that needed a bathroom break after that!!!!!

did the drive from C.Rai via Mae Chan / Taton / Fang and it took about 6 hours - with daughter. Realized later, that it would probably be about the same time factor if I'd taken the road down to C.Mai and up again, because of better roads to the turn off to Pai. Yet the Taton route is more scenic. I usually pack sandwiches for such trips, because the local food on offer is blah, and MSG laden.

One time I did Pai - Mae Sai and back to Pai via Fang / Tathon in one day, ON A HONDA SONIC.

So Chiang Rai - Pai is just a nice trip, especially if you know where the accelerator is situated in your car / bike.

Have a nice trip!
