expatgaz Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Iam married to a Thai , but not registered at the Embassy. We have a 4 month old baby.I want to register our marriage and also get the child dual citizenship and passport. Can anyone recommend a good agency to use to get all this sorted. If i go to the Embassy it will take such a long time getting all the info, Iam sure an agency sorting it will be far easier. Please p.m me with web addresses or phone numbers etc. Thanks.
GU22 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 You cannot register your marriage at the embassy. What you can do is use the embassy to place a copy of your Thai marriage certificate in the General Registry Office in London. Is it worth it? Not really as your Thai certificate plus a certified translation will suffice whenever you need your marriage certificate in the UK. Registering your child's birth is more important, as it will bestow dual citizenship on the child. The procedure seems quite straightforward, although I have no personal experience, so I don't see the need for paying an agent. You will need certified translations of any Thai documents (e.g. marriage certificate, Thai birth certificate) but any translation agency will do this for you. Usual charge is 300 to 500 baht per page. Consular Birth Registration Recording a Marriage in the UK
geordie Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Expatgaz, i am not sure about getting your marraige registered, but about your childs dual nationality. I am married and our daughter has dual nationality and British passport. I cannot remember the name of the agent that done all my paper work, but they are very good, all i had to do was turn up for the interview at the Embassy with my wife. There address is Sindhorn Buildings Tower 3, 19th floor or the 21st floor, wireless road opposite the American Embassy. Come out of the elevator and turn right there office is on the left. Ask for Mr Josh. I think the total cost was around 15000 baht, that includes all the translations, fee's for the UK embassy passport and birth certificate ect. Hope that this helps you. Best of luck Geordie
coldcrush Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Could anyone clarify if you have to register a child at the British Embassy before getting a British passport, or can the Birth Certificate and documents of parents be taken along and then a passport is issued? the reason I ask as alot of OPs seem to be under the impression there is no need to register a child? Confuddled??? Thanks all
geordie Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 (edited) The way i see it and i have done this for my daughter. You cannot get your first passport without showing your Birth certificate. That is why when people want to get a British pasport for there child that was born in Thailand they always get the Birth certificate at the same time. I dont think it is about registering your child at the embassy, it is about getting the UK birth certificate so you can apply for the passport. It says on the Embassy web site that the birth certificate is proof of identity and proof of nationality. So you need that to get the passport. You will of course have to show your birth certificate and passport and your wifes, so that you can register the birth. Hope this makes sense to you. Geordie Edited November 1, 2005 by geordie
