It is my understanding that I can extend my first or second entry on a tourist visa as early as I want. In my case I would like to extend my visa for another 30 days this week. I have re-entered Thailand beginning of this month so I still have 40 days left. Last time I externded with a week left and had no problems ie I was not loosing any days on my 30 day extension.

As we can not even extend for one year more than 30 days early at most locations suspect you will have a problem. Normal is during last 30 days for extensions of stay.
