Im an American woman here in Thailand with my two minor daughters 17 and 12. I wanted to know if they are covered under my education visa because I have just enrolled in school. I dont have the financial resources to enroll them in an international school at this time so I am homeschooling them, I read somewhere that dependants can be covered on their parents long term visas up to age 20. Will my daughters be eligible for this? If not what should I do?

If you have an ED extension of stay your dependents can obtain extensions for the same period of time - they require non immigrant visa entry and conversion using the normal TM.7 extension of stay costing 1,900 baht.

If you have a Visa they will not be able to use your Immigration status.

If you have an extension of stay they will be able to get the same extension as your dependents.

Thank y onu for the reply to my question. I dont have an education visa yet, I currently only have a 14 day extention on our initial 30 entry but hope to have my paper work from my school in time to go the Laos on Wed. My daughters have the same extention. Do I take them to laos with me to get this extension or non immigrant visa. I keep getting different advice and this process is confusing. I was told Thailand doesnt care if my kids have visas but I dont want to do anything to cause problems for them or myself.

1. There is no 14 day extension of a 30 day visa exempt entry that I am aware of. Suspect you made an exit and return for a new 15 day visa exempt entry?

2. A visa entry for you, as said, will not provide any status for daughters. If and when you obtain extension of stay from Immigration then daughters could obtain dependent matching extensions of stay.

3. Your daughters do indeed require visas and legal entry/stay. Under 15 would not require payment of overstay fees but it would be marked in passport and is illegal (although no adverse repercussions at present) but older daughter is too old for that.

4. Exit with daughters to get your ED visa and try to obtain non immigrant O visas for them to visit you.

Thank you and yes I did exit with my daughters and we obtain an additional 14day visa exempt entry. That is how we are here legally now but that is soon to run out. I am hoping my school gets my paper work in time for me to go to Laos this week. Since my daughters are living with me I don't want to get something where they can merely visit me because I am their only caretaker. Therefore is an O visa what I want. It seems that an extention of stay with my Ed. Visa and getting them an extension as my dependents matching my extention of stay is perferable. forgive so many questions but I am still wrapping my mind around the entire process. Thanks again for all your information and help.

The non immigrant O visa entry is required for them to obtain matching extensions of stay under provision 2.20 once you extend. Visiting is being with until the dependent status extension can be obtained.
