Crime Gunfight Erupts in Phetchaburi Village, Leaving One Dead
Picture courtesy of NBT A deadly shootout broke out in a village in Mueang Phetchaburi District on the night of 2 August, leaving one man dead and prompting a police manhunt for the suspected gunman. At approximately 22:20, the Phetchaburi 191 emergency call centre received multiple reports of gunfire near the Bang Thalu village pavilion in Moo 4, Had Chao Samran subdistrict. Police investigator Pol Lt Col Waipot Phetsakae from Had Chao Samran Police Station was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival at house number 99/2 in Bang Thalu village, officers found evidence of a violent confrontation. One man, later identified as Mr Pongpan Jan-krajang 46, known locally as “Tum”, had already been taken to hospital with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. According to police investigations and eyewitness accounts, Mr Pongpan and a 35-year-old male rival encountered each other by chance outside the house. A heated argument ensued, escalating into a gunfight, with both men reportedly drawing weapons and exchanging fire. Mr Pongpan attempted to flee and was later found hiding beside a house, gravely injured. Neighbours rushed him to hospital, but his wounds proved fatal. Residents stated that the altercation began in a parking area in front of a nearby home, where the two men began shouting at each other. The argument quickly turned violent, with shots fired in quick succession. The suspect then fled the scene on a motorcycle. Pol Lt Col Waipot confirmed that the two men had a long-standing feud and had clashed on multiple occasions prior to this fatal encounter. “Both parties were armed and exchanged gunfire, resulting in Mr Pongpan’s death,” he said. The police have identified the suspect and are actively pursuing him for arrest and prosecution. Authorities are urging any witnesses to come forward with additional information. Accident Worker Rescued After 5-Metre Tank Fall
Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A construction worker in Ubon Ratchathani was seriously injured after falling into a 5-metre-deep water tank under construction on 2 August. Emergency services used a concrete boom pump, to safely extract the injured man in a complex rescue operation. At around 12:00, the Ubon Ratchathani 1669 Emergency Response Centre received a report that a worker had fallen into a water storage tank near Ban Dam Phra Temple in Kham Yai subdistrict, Mueang Ubon Ratchathani District. Rescue teams from Sis Prachikong Foundation, the Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Administrative Organisation and Ubon Ratchathani Municipality were dispatched to the scene. The incident occurred at a construction site where workers were pouring concrete to form the tank walls. The victim, identified as Mr. Udon, 36, was found lying motionless at the bottom of the tank, wedged between concrete forms. He was conscious but unable to move due to suspected injuries to his neck, back and legs. Rescuers initially provided on-site first aid before using high-rise rescue equipment and the concrete boom pump to extract Mr. Udon, a process that took around 30 minutes. He was then transferred to an emergency ambulance from 50th Anniversary Mahavajiralongkorn Hospital for further treatment. Co-workers stated that Mr. Udon had been working on pouring concrete when he lost his balance and fell, striking wooden formwork on the way down. Witnesses immediately alerted the site supervisor and called emergency services. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the incident.
