Garth Tander and Nick Percat / for the Vodafone Holden team takes 1st place in the 2011 Bathurst 1000.

Spectacular race in my opinion, missed the 1st 15 laps, but the rest was great racing. Some really great racing by Lowndes, but he couldn't get past Tander.

Always fun to watch the V8's go round the mountain!

I am sure there will be some high lights up on youtube later.

Also have seen past races on torrents if anyone doesn't have cable or satellite.

Yeh, but Brock and Grisey, still overshadow the Pups.As for the Sound,i'm still Straight Six Fan,or a Screaming Cossy 4.

Very true, Brockie is definitely top of my list of best drivers in V8.

V8 at six grand is the ultimate performance sound, no question. :D

Drivers aren't the same now most memorable video's for me are Kevin Bartlett in the 9 Sports Camaro, 1981 describing how he is going to deal with the driver that put him in the fence and 1982 going through the cutting on his roof then getting out and having a beer and fag with the fans  .

So true, Grisey was like that, give him Ute anything with Wheels and a Beer,he was The Peoples Driver , but thats Ozzies, no pretence n bullshit.

I think the OP made a small c-ck up regarding his opening statement. Tander/Percat drive for Toll Holden Racing Team, not Team Vodafone. A brilliant race though and one which Lowndes/Scaife should have won.

Missed the finish - had to go get provisions in preparation for the Japanese F1 GP..

Maybe it's just me, but I miss the days when the field included Jags, BMW's, Nissan's, Porsche's, Volvo's etc... Some new talent, and some re-imagining to make it appeal to non-bogans as well would do the series well, IMHO.

Those days long gone the series is now basically supported by the two home manufacturers i remember about a year ago probably when they annouced their 'car of the future' there was talk of it enabling other manufacturers specifically Toyota to compete, one of the manufacturers said we don't want anybody spoiling our party ( Holden & Ford) if they come we might go,they don't want competition a bit like here Honda's race Honda's and a Honda wins Toyota's race Toyota's and a Toyota wins all in front of their target audience Big C shoppers on a temporary car park circuit.

Yes, I remember the media storm when the Holden boss came out and told Toyota they'd "receive no benefit" in joining the competition - quite interesting coming from the only team that uses an engine you can't actually buy in a car...

What's going to happen when the Ford Falcon ceases to exist in the next couple of years? Will it become a one-make-race until the Commodore also meets it's ultimate fate too? It's like the first mate is purposely trying to scuttle the ship and the captain's doing nothing to stop it, IMHO.

Love the sound and agree with other posts. it's also a very well managed race series. My problem is that the Holden/Ford rivalry is a thing of the past. There is so little difference between the two makes it's even hard to tell them apart. Watching hotted up family sedans/taxis also becomes a little boring. I would love the series to open up to other makes. Rated by horsepower and weight. An AMG C class benz would shake things up.

I am a racing fan and rate Bathurst right up their with the best. Just needs some variety.

Definately agree with you there HappyAussie.

Variety is what makes multi make racing interesting.

Found this on youtube- racing from the 70's.

Mix of 4, 6 and 8 cynlinders!

http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73j0jdg-ayQ

See how many different cars you can spot!

The focus is mostly on Holden Ford but still a bit more variety!

I got

Ford Falcon

Ford Fairlane

Ford GT-HO

Holden Torana

Holden Monaro

Holden Gemini?

Mini

Mazda

They got rid of the pesky Japs / Europeons in 1993 cant see it changing anytime soon , when Falcon goes probably adjust the rules so you can use a 4wd platform just using rwd like the Audi A4 running in BTCC at the moment to Alan Gow's (Aussie) new rules, so maybe some hot road Aussie 4wd Mondeo's!. Holden Gemini = Opel Kadett /Vauxhall Chevette = Isuzu Gemini in Thailand some still floating about here.
