PHUKET: -- The Phuket International Blues Rock Festival this year will be held at Laguna Phuket for the first time in the event’s seven-year history.

“With 1,300 hotel rooms and a large expat village in the immediate neighborhood, as well as easy access from anywhere in the north of the island, Laguna is the perfect place to stage such an event,” said Andy Anderson, the event’s founder and organizer.

The charity event, taking place on the last weekend of February, will again be raising funds for organizations dedicated to ensuring the education of Phuket children.

Headlining the upcoming event will be Chris Thomas King, well known for his contribution of Hard Time Killing Floor Blues to the Grammy-winning soundtrack for the film O Brother, Where Art Thou.

Rich Harper, John Meyer, and AkashA will all be returning to the stage by popular demand. A variety of newcomers from the US, UK, and Asia, as well as local Phuket-based acts, have also been recruited for the event.

Disappointed at the venue change as the Hilton Arcadia was walking distance for me. Although the move was anticipated I expected Patong, which would have probably attracted a larger crowd.

I think at Laguna they'll lose a lot of regulars that live in the south of the island and the tourist base, despite the 1300 hotel rooms, is much more limited.

Good luck, Andy. I hope I am wrong but I think you have made a poor choice.

I agree with you MM.

Also, my friends and I used to go regularly but really could only handle one night, so typically we would go the night Rich Harper was playing. A couple years ago they stopped offering the one night pass (although we'd pay a little more than 2-day divided by 2), so for the last two years, we'd stopped going.

North Island residents tend to be more upscale, doubt this will be their cup of tea.

P.S. and reason for edit: Might be a good opportunity for Rick of Rick N' Rolls to put on a south island version with some of the participants.

Might be a good opportunity for Ricky Zen to start a Phuket Rock Festival.

It will probably die a death at Laguna. Good luck anyway and hope I am wrong.

I can't see it flourishing up Laguna way, but good luck to all. Maybe Andy has worked out a deal with all the Laguna hotels where all the guests there over the concert dates get a ticket which was padded into the bill.
