Thinking of a new car next year, anyone know when the Subaru and Mazda will be For Sale ?

Understand the Subaru XV will be the 1.6 Boxer engine only in Thailand but looks good @ under 1 million

The Mazda CX5 will be the 2.0 engine @ just over 1 million

Cannot find when they will be on the market.. It is confusing on the Subaru XV have read April 2012 ? October 2012 ? on sale early 2014 ? Likewise the Mazda CX5 Jan 2012 + dates up to March 2013, yet it is on some Mazda dealers website already

The Subaru XV enters production in MY in Oct 2012, so expect to see it at the 2012 Motor Expo, with TH deliveries starting in Q1 2013.

The CX-5 launches in Q1 2012 in some markets, but it's Thai debut is still unknown.. The earliest I'd expect it would be late 2012 to early 2013, but that's a pure guess..

Yep, the Skyactiv-D diesel is 2.2L, so not very compatible with Thai taxes...

I was just wondering what is the Thai tax on diesels and why there is no small cars powered by diesel engines here ??

It's alittle complex - I posted a topic on it a few months back - a search for "excise tax" should pull it up (the mobile version of the site I'm using ATM doesn't have search otherwise.I'd just link.it)

The short answer is that the excise tax increases as soon as an engine has > 2000cc for passenger cars, which is why a 2.4LCamry/Accord/Teana costs so much more than a 2.0L.

As for diesel passenger cars, they haven't yet been too popular for a couple of reasons: 1) price - turbo diesels are more expensive to manufacture than gasoline engines, and 2) Noise/refinement - the diesel.passenger car engines popular in Europe are all.Euro4 spec, and many are uneconomical to convert to run on lower quality Thai Euro3. That's changing soon though - as of Jan 1st 2012, all diesel in TH must be Euro4.

So a.combo of extra production costs and extra excise tax would.mean a 2.2L diesel CX5 would be priced out of the market..

Just learned that Subaru is opening a factory in Malaysia and will be making the XV there as the only model.

Do you know if they plan to make other Subaru vehicles there in the future? Legacy/Impreza/Forester?

Also, any idea what Subaru's expansion plans are for the Thai market? Will they have dealers here eventually?

Grew up with Subarus and found them to be reliable cars. Would seriously think of getting one if there was proper dealer support.

Back on a PC now - here's the post that details the taxation system here:

Yep, MY = Malaysia :)

It would stand to reason that other models will also eventually be assembled from CKD kits in MY, but nothing has been announced yet - more than likely because it's still a way off, so any other prospects are still as-yet unnounced models so not discussed openly..

There has been talk of the Subura TH dealer network expanding, but no specifics. I wouldn't expect them to start planning 70+ new dealerships though - so they won't have a presence in every province anytime soon..
