Well it won't be Bangplad. Charan Sanit Wong is dry and Tesco Lotus is still open. KFC and Pizza Company still producing hot, tasty rubbish so life is normal. River level still dropping slowly.

Chao Praya is looking steady. We are at Bangplad Soi 70/2 about 500m north of Saphan Krung Thon. Water level has dropped since this tweet. We are watching it closely as our apartment is directly on the river.

We'd left it down there on top of a table when we moved everything else up last week , but I told the mrs to get some win-motorsai's round as I was fed up of traipsing down to chan G to get my beers!

By what stretch of the imagination is this not a state of emergency - Thailand should be asking the rest of the world to help not pretending that it will all be alright!

I will never in a million years understand this "loss of face" thing - life is much more simple "if you are in trouble ask for help" and when you are not in trouble look for others that need help!

I really hope that something is done before any more people needlessly lose their lives - they could have evacuated areas days ago in an orderly fashion - now they are opening the way for panic. I dont think this government or PM are particularly responsible since it seems that no Thai public figures are ever prepared to admit there are problems they cant deal with!

The thai goverment asked the World Bank and UN for help last week- a massive needs assessment is underway coordinated by the bank. UN will provide relief support.

Thailand just gave money to Cambodia and Vietnam for flood relief. What the heck is going on?

I do agree with ignoring the panicking wife though I've had to deal with a bit of that myself. Buy life jackets she says! And we're many kilos from the nearest barriers or dykes on some of the highest ground and already numerous floating devices around in a worst case scenario..

Exactly, its a joke, also they show these slow motion videos about the flooding and mix it with emotional pity songs, what a joke is this, i just laugh.. But pity those families who live on daily income and now no house, no jobs, no food, no nothing, well done khun mai pen rais... Anyway, its a natural disaster regarding the changing climate same like Katrina or other so they have to put their best efforts to tell the ppl the truth not showing this useless dramas all the time...

Coming in a little now at the Ratchada/Prachachuen intersection where that large canal is.. I also see it coming out of the drains as i turned onto Ratcahda rd. Fingers and toes crossed

my comment: That's HOT news, of course. However, it grossly falls short of adequate information. Maybe the Governor didn't say, and the Nation didn't either: what are those 27 communities? Seems like essential information, to me.

I live on the Chao Praya and just checked and yes the rive is really high but not to the point of immediate evacuation , it's still dry land on the outer edges and actually looks like dropping from the water marks .

Natural disaster? Insurance companies may see it as a man made disaster owing to holding back the water then opening the flood gates. Could possibly save them a heap of claims.
