Crime Gunfight Erupts in Phetchaburi Village, Leaving One Dead
Picture courtesy of NBT A deadly shootout broke out in a village in Mueang Phetchaburi District on the night of 2 August, leaving one man dead and prompting a police manhunt for the suspected gunman. At approximately 22:20, the Phetchaburi 191 emergency call centre received multiple reports of gunfire near the Bang Thalu village pavilion in Moo 4, Had Chao Samran subdistrict. Police investigator Pol Lt Col Waipot Phetsakae from Had Chao Samran Police Station was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival at house number 99/2 in Bang Thalu village, officers found evidence of a violent confrontation. One man, later identified as Mr Pongpan Jan-krajang 46, known locally as “Tum”, had already been taken to hospital with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. According to police investigations and eyewitness accounts, Mr Pongpan and a 35-year-old male rival encountered each other by chance outside the house. A heated argument ensued, escalating into a gunfight, with both men reportedly drawing weapons and exchanging fire. Mr Pongpan attempted to flee and was later found hiding beside a house, gravely injured. Neighbours rushed him to hospital, but his wounds proved fatal. Residents stated that the altercation began in a parking area in front of a nearby home, where the two men began shouting at each other. The argument quickly turned violent, with shots fired in quick succession. The suspect then fled the scene on a motorcycle. Pol Lt Col Waipot confirmed that the two men had a long-standing feud and had clashed on multiple occasions prior to this fatal encounter. “Both parties were armed and exchanged gunfire, resulting in Mr Pongpan’s death,” he said. The police have identified the suspect and are actively pursuing him for arrest and prosecution. Authorities are urging any witnesses to come forward with additional information.
