Toyota Remains Loyal To Flood-Hit Thailand

According to this CNN article, Toyota has no plans to leave Thailand despite recent events:

Some excerpts:

[While Thailand's floods offer a golden opportunity for automakers to diversify their investment across the region – hunting down cheaper suppliers in nearby Vietnam or Indonesia – the kingpin of the Thai market, Toyota, has no plans to go anywhere. "Toyota is so comfortable in Thailand, I don't see any major move away any time soon," said auto industry analyst Michael Dunne.

"Thailand is a premier manufacturer without equal."]

and

[Nevertheless, Thailand is too good a fit for Toyota for it to leave permanently. When the floodwaters recede the automaker has vowed to return.

"Toyota is not considering shrinking its operations here," Toyota's president Akio Toyodo said recently. "If anything we hope to expand."]

I'm sure this is disappointing news to the naysayers who are always hoping for the demise of Thailand, particularly as it relates to foreign investors.

Not that im saying this is a lie and that i want to see Thailand's demise. But if i were Toyota id say i have no plans to leave Thailand too get some nice tax breaks and then leave.

Or it could be the truth, but some hard words have been said by the Japanese. I doubt all is forgotten so lightly.

am sure that other companies including Dell are looking at other places, just in case the government cannot deliver their promises, and predictions of no more floods for years. I for one would be looking at having a back up operational factory in another country, producing some parts now, but ready to increase production in case of another disaster, so that my company profits are not gonna fall too drastically.
