Installing New Program

Featured Replies

I have downloaded a couple of programs recently but can not for reasons unknown to me install them, my PC says on the last attempt that it could not find the server and I should check the internet connection on an other occasion trying to install Firefox failed, do I have to change settings to complete these installations and if so what do I do, as you can see I am computer amateur.

You might have better luck if you mention what the program name is. If it is asking for a server before being installed I would have a little heartburn unless I was very sure about it. Microsoft does that kind of thing but I would not trust most sites. I always download and save, then run virus scan of the download, then click the download to install it. There used to be a lot of conflicts with anti virus programs if you did not shut them down during install but I have not had problems with AVG on any programs lately.

Firefox is off my computer so can not comment on that.

I am trying to istall Incredimail and Freenet

I do not have either but see the mail program is an 8meg download so suspect it is the full program. Are you sure it can not find server during install or perhaps has it installed and can not find when it tries to run? In that case your internet connection would have to be active and it appears this program may only work with Internet Explorer so that would have to be available. There is also the chance that a server could be down when we try to access with our day being night many places.

If the program appears in your start menu it has been installed and you may need to set up some options or something to get it working right. Check in the install folder for any instructions if there is not a link on the start bar. If program opens and has a help menu try looking there for information. Perhaps if you exactly detail your experience someone with recent experience will see and be able to offer advise. There could also the mater of firewalls if you are using any but I am not sure if that program needs any special ok or not.

The download was 393KB for incredimail and was saved to disk, when I tryed installing (RUN)get a message saying failed to find the server, when I restarted my PC this morning a message appears saying an "incomplete incredimail icon has been placed on you desk top, continue installing now" I run through the install procedure without any problems until again receive the same "failed to find server" so I really don not know as I said in my first post I am a PC amateur but appreciate your info

Connect to the internet then run incredimail again, it will d/l the full program for you.

Or go HERE and download the full 8 meg setup package and install yourself. That was what I had checked rather than the hotspot download signs.
