Friend of mine on his way to Kata that morning drove by, I was by about an hour later but didn't see anything.

I know we cannot quote other sources here but supposedly, white pants, blue shirt, slicked back grey hair I heard from my friend who went by...........

RIP to the deceased, seems we don't ever get much followup on these stories so just looking for info.

What about the murdered guy that was believed to be a westerner at phromthep cape?

Shot and dumped in the bushes.

Well GOM, I'm happy to report it wasn't me. We rode by there that night and my wife said she saw some people gathered there, but we didn't think about it until I read the news story. We also saw an accident a bit earlier that night on our way to Kata. People driving stupidly and crazy... Isn't "high season" great? I can't wait until it's over! See you around town, hopefully...

I didn't hear about that one. I didn't see it in the PG either.

There has been some recent reports on both these topics....look gazette daly news..

I couldn't find any followups on these two deaths either.

The murder at the Cape was initially reported in the online blog we can't talk about.

Perhaps you could put up a link to the articles Barka? We can do that with PG.

From the way the guy was laid out in the photo, it looked like the old fishline across the road trick. Plus no identifications means someone got what they were after?

O.K., off to look at some news sources.......

Interesting article just published in the 'alternative channel' about an Italian stabbed in the back by a gang of local motorcyclists at Nai Harn, apparently without motive, as well as an off duty policeman in Phuket Town shooting another diner after an altercation.

Thanks. I read it. Strange this incident didn't receive more publicity.

Then again, there are "millions" of reasons to not want the headline "Tourist murdered in Phuket" on the global news.

This one is especially frightening for me as this is my hood.

I do see these kids gathering, time for more CCTV's on the viewpoint road as well as around Nai Harn Lagoon.

I like the news stories they cover and go for the stories that nobody else will touch but the editor (Alan Morrison) has a huge ego that drags that site down and his hate for this forum is voiced continuely.

Just look at his comments in that article. No wonder he had no real career in journalism in Australia and had to come to Phuket to air his ego.

I'm still unable to find any 'news' on either murder.

Good to know though that some 'superstar' called Tata is back on Phuket rolleyes.gif .

Edit - Goober, you need to give us a few more clues as to the newspaper that is reporting on this.

Fishing line across the road ... Really?! That's scary... Thought usual tactic was to ride up and just kick you off... Much easier to see them coming and take some action.

Yes, that's the method and it avoids all those pesky cars that keep driving through the line and spoiling the trap.

This is the second time you have made a statement like this,,i know of at least 6 incidents of cases like this over the last few years on this Kata view point road..both ways, and i am sure some of the older posters like GOM,KB,JIMMY007,can confirm this..this is real and still going on...Drive Safely, Beware..

Better still, don't go out late at night on a motorbike. Either use a taxi or a samlaw.

Some may remember a couple of years ago, the Norwegian LNG tanker captain, married to a Thai and resident in Rawai that was robbed and murdered riding his motorcycle home late at night between Kata and Rawai. To my knowledge, no-one was ever caught and charged for that, or any of the other similar robberies that have taken place in that area.

The first time I made s statement like this you claimed there were many fake accidents on that hill. I drive that hill everyday, all times, and have never heard of fake accidents there. Some time ago there were a few robberies here, but that seems to have been solved. I may even have had something to do with that, I chased a robber there, got his licenseplate and identified the giuy at the policestation.

Now you are claiming a fishingline across that road has caused many accidents there, and I'm sorry but again I don't believe this. So looking forward to you proving me wrong.

I know what you mean as far as I know the last reported robberies of farang motorcyclists there was at least a year ago.

Like you, I'm not convinced by the 'fishing-line' story either - sounds too much like one of the infamous urban myths, but I'd still not recommend anyone travel that road (or others around Sai Yuan/Rawai) late at night on a scooter.

They don't use fishing line stretched across the road. Think about it.

Cars keep breaking the line. What if it's a motorbike police patrol, or, a group of riders on multiple motorbikes, or, even some lone Thai that probably doesn't have any money.

No, these robbers like to select their targets first. Usually a lone rider, so they are outnumbered and usually a foreigner as they will be presumed to be cashed up. The pillion rider then either kicks the motorbike to make it crash, or, hits the driver with a lump of wood.

All these robberies are done by the local tear-a-ways which is why the police do nothing.

If this guy had been brought down by fishing line, there would be a very obvious ligature across his head, neck, or, chest that you just couldn't miss noticing. It would have been in the report.

Wassup? Don't you guys watch CSI?

I agree but - why should it make a difference that the robberies are committed by " local tear-a-ways"?

If the police know there is a problem by said youths in certain areas, they should be out in force to catch them. If these 'kids' get away with it they will go on to 'bigger and better' crimes in the future.

Because:-

A. Their mummies and daddies are either powerful in themselves, or, have connections.

B. They can bring a lot of woe down on the heads of the lowly police that would dare accuse their little darlings of any malfeasance.

C. Tourists come and go. Locals are there forever.

Did you here of robberies on the hill between Nai Harn and Kata lately? I have not, and think because they caught the perpetrators. See my earlier post, I even identified one.

There was a two year spell where many foreigners were getting robbed near Icon. Everyone knew who was responsible; local lads.

Only when the numbers got out of hand and businesses were being affected did the perpetrators finally get "caught".
