Everyone has their reasons smile.png

When my wife & I were married she moved her last name to become her middle name & took my last name as hers

As Lopburi said the main thing is have all your papers match

These days you cannot travel internationally if your passport has one name & your visa another.

Sometimes even clearing the gate with a drivers license & passport that do not match make it impossible

on local flights as well as buying a international ticket. Major airlines now warn when you book that the ticket & passport must match exactly.

Before they allowed us to travel with the marriage certificate to show reason

Makes it tough on folks like my wife who married me here (USA) then had to change her passport by mailing it to the Thai Embassy & having them forward it for changes...before we could travel.

Chok Dee with your new husband

My wife has got 2 last names, she kept hers and added mine :-) All legal, no issues at all.

It might be an issue with some computer entry programs however.

my wife changed her name to mine, easier if you do decide to settle in uk for bank accounts, pension benifits,n.i number, council tax,new passport, ect.

When we lived in the UK my wife used my name (bank accounts, credit cards, passport, etc.) In Thailand she continued to use her maiden name. We never had a problem with this in either country.

bit akward, for booking travel in los if wifes i.d.card and passport in your name, but i suppose has its benefits in los,for property purchase in thai name, just a thought.found in general uk surnames easier to say, lol.

For travel we book using either her maiden name or her married name depending on the circumstances. She has documentation for both.

The reason my wife uses her maiden name in Thailand is that in the past she has occasionally had problems if people know she is married to a farang. Using her maiden name sidesteps this.

Also all her bank accounts, property, etc. were in her Thai name. Couldn't be bothered changing all this.

In summary, for her there is no good reason to use a farang name in Thailand .

when my wife went to get her thai passport, she had to show her thai id, which said miss (they made a cockup when they changed her surname to mine they didnt change miss to mrs), the would Not accept it , so we had to change her thai id to mrs, to get her passport
