Dear guys,

well I know my question may sound a lil silly, but Im a lil confused since some said that my bf can apply for the non immigration O visa (changing from his tourist visa) at the Consulate..then for the extension at the government complex (immigration office)..

so my question is......where do we go for the non immigration o application, govt complex or the consulate and where do we go for the extension (this one I assume its immigration)?

im a lil confused since they are both on Chaeng Wattana and right next to each other..

Thank you

Sandy:)

Your future husband can convert his tourist visa entry into a non-O visa enty after the wedding at immigration Cheang Wattana Road in Bangkok, where he will also need to go for extensions of stay.

No they are not both at Chiang Watanna. There is no Thai Consulate inside Thailand. That would involve visit to a Consulate outside Thailand to obtain a non immigrant O visa. Most would go to Vientiane or other city and stay overnight to obtain. The alternative, if they qualify for one year extension of stay (have 400k in bank account) is to visit Immigration at Chiang Watanna with a week or two remaining on current stay and either obtain visa (one form) or convert tourist visa (different form) for 2,000 baht fee and then return 60 days later to extend in normal way.

ah I see, sorry I was referring to a Thai consulate on Chaeng Wattana where I used to go to get a letter for the US embassy for my Visa application.

Ok, so our plan is right after the marriage registration,

1. approximately the 3rd of Feb we will go to the Immigration at CW.

2. however, hes got 3 entry tourist Visa from the Thai embassy in the UK, and now hes going to do his last visa run based on this visa on the 11 Feb.

so do you suggest him going to get his visa run on the 11 Feb and then come back and we go to the immigration to apply for the non-immigration O type (using TM8 form), and if so CAN WE GO STRAIGHT AFTER OR DO WE HAVE WAIT TILL HE HAS A WEEK OR TWO ON HIS TOURIST VISA EXTENSION hes got from his 3rd visa run?

or do you guys suggest us going to the Immigration on the 3rd and get the conversion then?

Note: he has got at least 400k in the bank for the past 6 months already :)

Thank guys! :)

how soon do we can get his tourist visa converted? Does it have to be when he has a week or two left on his current visa or it can be whenever as long as its more than a week left?

There is no hurry unless he needs the non immigrant visa entry for some reason (such as vehicle purchase) as he can just stay on tourist visa for awhile if he wants. He should visit immigration (with you) with 21 days remaining on permitted to stay stamp (that used to be the minimum time but they do allow less now) to make the conversion and then the extension.

The office you get Passport and such is the MFA Department of Consular Affairs office but is not called a "Consulate". Consulates are what countries have overseas at Embassies and stand-alone to provide visa service and service to home country nationals living there.

I see, thanks! feel a lil bit like an ignorant brat now .......i shoulda known the differences between the MFA Department of Consular Affairs and a Consulate!!! :)

I see, at least 21 days are fine..

we just thought that we would want to get it done as soon as we can after the registration and dont leave it until he has 21 days left, so the officials wont think that the marriage was taken place so he can stay..you know what i meant, its because of love, not business..

:D

Thank you so so so much, you guys have been a great help! :)

Hello,

Can you confirm that it's easy to convert a Tourist visa (2 months) in Non-immigrant "O" based on marriage ?

Just go to immigration with wedding registration letter and 2000 Thb before your tourist visa expires and get immediately a Non-immigrant O for 2 more months of stay ?

Then after these 2 months what to do ?

Thanks a lot.

The marriage certificate will not be enough. You must be able to show 40,000 a month income OR 400,000 in a Thai bank account in your name and show up with your wife, and proof of marriage, household registration book..

Be prepared to be send to Bangkok if not living in Bangkok and inquire at immigration first if they will do it and what documents they will need.

They will give you 90 days and can extend that with 1 year, every year again.
