The Really Big Breakfast: 6,000 Calorie Fry-Up Is Slammed By Health Campaigners... But A Hit With Diners

Featured Replies

A monster breakfast which weighs the same as a small child and could potentially kill diners is attracting criticism from angry health campaigners

The Kidz Breakfast at Jesters Diner in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, includes 12 rashers of bacon, 12 sausages and six eggs and weighs on average 9lb - 1lb 5oz more than the average newborn baby.

Health experts are demanding its removal from the menu and are warning someone with a heart condition could die if they eat it, with each helping amounting to at least 6,000 calories, up to three days' food intake for an average person.

Maybe they should advertise it as 'Breakfast for 3-4 persons' and then let people take their chances....

£ 15.- !!!

How much if they take the loaf of bread away?

Don't need that, just a couple of slices with slatherings of butter and some Marmite.

There's early morning buses from here (Cambridge) to Great Yarmouth - what's the address?

thats kind of disgusting. they should send the story to that man vs food guy who isn't a foodie just eats disgusting amounts of food.

frankly,if you are stupid enough to eat that much food in one sitting and you have a heart attack, its simply darwinism in action.

Did you lick the plate clean Boater?

Cos if ya didn't there's no pudding for you lad d'ya hear? tongue.png

When are health campaigners going to learn to leave my plate alone.

The Penny Ferry in Chesterton has closed - a sad return to Cambridge for me, as they served good helpings of food. But fortunately the Green Dragon is still open and, although it does not itself lie on the banks of the Cam, it has a picnic area that does. Not so enjoyable in this weather (frost on the ground today), but I'm looking forward to spring.

Lovely pic!

Indeed! Conjures up images of Bertie Wooster and the trouble he might get up to on "boat race night".

Where's the devilled kidneys?

Haha yeah or the black and white pudding.

In fact a decent brekkie would have a Bloody Mary on the side at least.

I've only had white pudding North of Middlesboro'.

Doesn't it travel well?

It's good to be back in Cambridge, there's often 15-20 eights milling around in the mornings - both men and women crews, plus coxes and coaches. All getting the miles in before a day's work.

Since I've been back (maybe three weeks now) I've walked round the city a dozen times - makes me very conyent with life.

And a dozen different brekkies - but I'll have to catch the coach to Yarmouth soon (prefer Lowestoft)

I love Cambridge and its small surrounding villages. The Abbot ale there is the best I've tasted anywhere...mmm creamy!

I have to say I'm rather disappointed with their egg to meat ratio. I'm always faced by the great cafe breakfast conundrum of running out of fried egg when there's still a banger or rasher sitting on the plate.

My local is a Greene King pub, first licenced in 1630. Excellent jars of The Abbot, and a brisk walk home after watching the Calcutta Cup.

My walk home was a slow trudge...in silence.

On daytime TV yesterday they had a brief comment on the OPs breakfast.

Some celebrity had said they enjoyed the breakfast, so they interviewed him and gave him 28 minutes to eat the plateful.

As the half-hour drew near he had eaten less than a quarter of the brekkie.

Why are these self-promoting eejits allowed to survive?

Seeing that plate makes me feel rather guilty about the HUGE hamburger with the lot and a big side of fries that I cooked up for a lazy dinner last night. Disgusting, but delish.
