Looking To Move To Chiang Mai

I would really appreciate some advice on Moo Baans in the vicinity of Lanna International School. We plan to move to Chiang Mai in July and have booked a week in March to check out some Moo Baans. We are prepared to pay anything from THB 25 - 35k. We would like a good club house and one away from the flight path. Please let me know if anyone can recommend one near the Lanna school...

Lanna school is very close to the runway, so being close is going to put you on the flight path. May be easier (quieter) to live a few clicks away and school bus your kids in. PS: That money will easily get you a very nice house here - especially out that far from town.

Thanks for the advice. Our son is 3 years old so currently we would prefer to drive him into school. Would you be able to recommend any Moo Baans further away from the flight path but within 20-30 mins drive to Lanna?

Lanna International School is West of Irrigation/canal road so if you stay West you will be distant from the airport. There are three very nice Moo Baans South on Canal Road that come to mind although their names do not. They are on the West side of Canal Road within ten minutes of Lanna School. Another is on Samoeng Road 1 kilometer West of the intersection with Canal Road. There are several ThaiVisa posters who live in these Moo Baans. Perhaps they will come on-line and provide more info for you.

I thought LIST abuts the airport and just past the south end of the runway.

There is a road that you can enter from the canal road and go through to LISt and then on to Hang Dong - Chiang Mai Road. You have to be travelling in the southerly direction to get on the road, of course.

The only way you can be closer to the airport than Lanna International School (LIS) is to be in an airplane on the runway itself. 10 meters outside LIS's gym is the fence going around the runway.

If you are interested in buying a house, check out "The Urbana". It's on the corner of where the super highway and 2nd ring road cross. It's an excellent location to get to Hang Dong in the morning. They might have some rentals out there.

We bought a house in Urbana, great location, good pool and gym, couple of nice internal parks, very clean village, good security. (My Thai son and his wife both teach professional swimming classes at the Urbana pool. Son speaks good English and Thai, both great with young children.)

Yes quite a few houses for rent, many probably never been lived in, many fully furnished. All houses have nice internal gardens, part of the original price. Plus some houses, again probably never lived in, available for sale, many fully furnished.

Office is very helpful, for English best to ask to speak to Khun Wanchai, pleasant guy, good listener, patient, customer focused, always tries to be helpfu, good follow up.

Plus it's just 10 - 15 minute easy drive to Varee Chiang Mai school.

Easy 10 - 20 minute drive to many shopping centres including Rimping, Lotus, Big C, Big C Extra, Home-Pro, Airport Plaza, etc.

Depending on traffic, 15 - 25 minute drive to downtown Chaing Mai.

Occasional distant, not loud, aicarft noise on some days, guess it depends on prevailing winds therefore which direction aircraft approach from.

Good luck.

Without wishing to be churlish you are a little geographically muddled. See map below for Lanna's location.

Lanna is just west of Hang Dong Rd and well to the east of Canal Rd (road marked 121 on the map).

The moo baans on the west side of Canal rd in Mae Hia I presume you mean Emperor, Twogether and Nai Fan 2. Lanna Thara is on the Night Safari rd that runs between Hang Dong and Canal Rd (therefore east of Canal).

The nicest moo baans close to Lanna are Nai Fan 2 and Lanna Thara, but there are cheaper options in the Mae Hia/Hang Dong area and further afield you have moo baans such as Lanna Pinery, Home in Park etc. There is also a vast new moo baan being built almost next door to Lanna, Serene Lake, with the Babylon-style space portal gates.

See the posts below about the Lanna Tara Moo Baan

Would suit your purpose 100% with rentals at the rate you seuggest.

Don't get much air traffic noise as the planes tend to fly over the Saraphi road and Big C.

And the school's van comes here every day.

It appears an apology is in order for disseminating erroneous information. I was in reference to the school near to the entrance of the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek and the Night Safari which has a large Lanna School sign displayed on the second level. I've been there with a friend and his five year old daughter in the past as well as riding by frequently on my road bike. The road is called Ratchaphreuk Rd or road 3044 and is the segment West of Irrigation Canal.

My apologies again and can only attest my few remaining brain cells have let me down again.

Hi Yingwa,

My husband and I currently live almost alongside the airport runway 3 mins away from Lanna Int. School. Unfortunately it gets noisy with the planes taking off and landing and we also don't like the many brick maker-fires that are burnt in the area - they contribute to making the air smoky. So we're moving to another house far away from the airport.

Please feel free to send me a "Personal Message" if you'd like more info on the area immediately around the Lanna School. Wish you luck with your move here.

There is a school located at the entrance to Ratchaphreuk called Hannah Christian school. A very nice and friendly school.

Seems we have all the housing committee members from the above fore'mentioned moobans to get you to rent or buy a house in their particular location so the overdue monthly accounts may be paid after many years in arrears. ( all outstanding debt must be paid before transfer on sale)

Rent a house in everyone of the housing estates mentioned above you will see how badly located the airport is, or the developers know how to buy cheap land and flog their product of to the unwary buyer. Caveot Emptor

Thank you all for your suggestions. We are not ready to buy in Thailand yet so we only plan to rent for the foreseeable future. I will look at some of the Moo Bahns mentioned when when we visit Chiang Mai next month.

Don't judge everyone by your tired, cynical standards.

While there may well be plenty of plonkers on TV, some folk are keen to actually be helpful and give sensible advice/suggestions.

Having lived in both Lanna Thara and Nai Fan 2 neither are bothered by the airport and for someone with children at Lanna are by far the most civilised options.

I've lived in "Home in Park" and was amazed at how quiet it was. In fact at first I found the incessant bird chirping annoying, but now I've got used to it.

Beautiful houses, seemed very secure - one neighbor never locked his door, with many hundreds of thousands worth of electronics on display all around the living areas surrounded by picture windows overlooking the rice paddies.

Highly recommended, less than 15 minutes drive from that school or the airport, never saw any significant traffic in that area.
