Thai Politics

Featured Replies

Can someone explain to me why westerners, 99.734% who have no vote in Thailand, get so exercised about the workings of a country that was an absolute monarchy 78 years ago? They bang on about constitutions and elections as though the rest of the world is the same as the system they were brought up in. When are they going to realise that other places are different?

I have actually asked that exact question in the News section.....

It pisses folks off to no end :)

Their answers have basically been....

Well yes we know we cannot vote but we do live here & spend money here so we have a say/right to say....

I mention as you did that no in reality they do not have a say & are guests/transitory at best with 1 year visa's

Again....pissed off posters :)

But aside from your general question I have also wondered if Thai politicians care enough to look at TV from time to time?

If they do I am sure they do not like what they see in those sections.

It's blatantly obvious the system just is not working for Thailand.

When it comes to people spouting political stuff the only right way is their way, even when it is wrong.

I demand respect for being a pissed off plonker. I will fight till the death to defend my right to have no say in how I live, and how I spend my money. I am proud of living on a street with no road ( money given to the Mayor three years running ) and paying for the damage caused to the rider ( and me ) when a yabba infused, no-insurance, shit head runs into the back of me when I'm stationary, only adds to my national pride.

What the hell do these people think they are doing complaining ?.........Buggers should just leave.

Yup. Best decision I made in my life - leaving Thailand. Just packed a suitcase and left everything behind me.

In SE Asia I have lived and worked in Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong in addition to Thailand. All offered an overall better experience, probably due to the lack of an arrogant people who will always do everything 'their' way, rather than the sane, sensible, proven-best, 'normal' way.

The kind of interest in Thai politics shown by many of the posters on TV would do nothing to ameliorate any of the problems you mention. Would wearing a red or a yellow shirt have prevented your accident?

I always wear both........

Oooh, you can't do that. If you're not red, you MUST be yellow and vice versa. You can't be both and you most definitely cannot be neither. It's Thai Visa rulez.

ameliorate
- That's a new word for me.

The mind boggles that you don't see the irony of your statement but well, never mind.

It's not just politics. It's some of the more preposterous claims about Thais in general - especially Thai men. There's a thread running at the minute in which someone has posted that he's 'read that 75% of Thai men have had sex with a child prostitute'. I wonder if the people who post this stuff stop to think about the simple maths? According to wiki there are about 14 million under- 14s in Thailand. What proportion of these children are child prostitutes? 75% of the male population is about 20 million-ish. So 20 million men have had paid sex with a percentage of 14 million children. I think there's a great need for some remedial maths classes for the more gullible posters.

I think a lot of the problem expats have with Thais is that they seem to enjoy themselves a lot more with a lot less than the Farang has.

I mean, how dare they have such a good time when they're poor!

And all Thai women are willing to have sex for money

And all women are only interested in money

And so on

There's a lot of dickheads on Thai Visa nowadays.

^Just 'these days', Mr Wibble? Thankfully, most of the dickheads of old have been uninvited and are now bickering amongst themselves at TD.

I suspect that the feeling may be mutual...

That is oh so true. Why worry about what we have absolutely no chance of changing? Balance the good things against the bad and just make a choice where to live... even if it's only part time.

Maybe.

The incompetent engineers on my payroll are now looking for other jobs where they can sit all day downloading porn and/or music.

The ex-wife still has the house, but no longer a monthly allowance, so has to work in Central for rice money.

I'm happy and content with my current life, something I could not often say during my 15-20 years of living in Thailand ( although working all over the world)

It's blatantly obvious the system just is not working for Thailand.

I could be getting old....55 now.....

But it seems I can say that about many countries these days.

Sadly even the country I have citizenship with ....

Agree, Ping.

Not been to "that other place" in yonks, years...... lol.

Do they keep TV nics and avatars?

Mite look in sumtime when I am bored.
