I would like to buy a laser color printer and I'm not sure about the choice I'm going to make.

Too many completely different reviews on the same printer here on the web.

I don't have too many problems about the price (10 to 25.000 is ok to me) but what I need basically is:

- Good overall quality print (both text, graphic and pictures)

- Cost per page/toner cartridges cheap and easy to find

- Duplex printing

- Strong-long life and availability of spares

I don't need

- Multifunction

- LAN/WLAN

Don;t waste your time on other BRAND .

HP ONLY .

I disagree after having to buy many to throw away every 6 months. They only make good doorstops.

My Epson T11 has been going strong for over 3 years. Print quality is still great! It's fitted with refillable ink tanks, so doesn't cost much for ink.

BB 1950 - Epson T11 is not a laser printer. Laser printers have toner cartridges, not ink tanks.

OP- I also highly recommend HP. After all, they invented the laser printer.

Definitely stay away from Samsung laser printers. They are unreliable, toner-hungry, have bug-ridden driver software will only bring you grief and / or aggravation.

Im another anti HP person , anything HP as a matter of fact.

Fuji Xerox all the way...excellent machines.

What about Kyocera Mita (the C5150DN)??: Many good reviews and they give me free 4 more toner for a total of 21.000 Baht

People say that HP is the best, but consumables (toner and drum) extremely expensive. Is it true?

Not an issue, we all misread and others have corrected.

Indeed an inkjet could be a viable solution, certainly significantly cheaper to buy. Much depends upon why the OP wants a laser.

I've got no experience with the above brands - maybe someone else can provide some feedback.

We have an HP Laserjet 1100 in the office that has been serving us well for more than 10 years now. We did have to replace the drum about 6 yrs ago, which was costly, but was our fault. The employees were running recycled paper through it, printing on the back side. By doing this, the the drum and heater ended up getting ruined by the toner on the original side of the paper. Lesson learned the hard / expensive way- don't use recycled paper in a laser printer. Use inkjet instead for this!

Indeed an inkjet could be a viable solution, certainly significantly cheaper to buy. Much depends upon why the OP wants a laser.

Very valid point - the intended use / need for laser. The only substantial benefit to laser printers these days is the output speed. If the OP doesn't need the speed, then a good inkjet printer with the tank setup like BB1950 mentioned would definitely be a worthwhile consideration / cheaper to operate.

If one wants a printer that will

be used infrequently

have durability and dependability over time

give minimum hassle with servicing or refills of whatever

be simple to use with a minimum of 'bells and whistles'

produce good quality print of text and images

Would it be laser or ink jet that best fits?

I have a Samsung mono laser, it sits for months at a stretch and produces perfect prints first time, every time.

I have an Epson inkjet that also sits for months at a time, and is a pain in the butt to get going after being stood.

BUT

I also have a Canon Pixma 9000Pro which was left in its box for 3 years which worked perfectly from the first print smile.png I needed A3 prints and was expecting trouble, but it just worked. Pretty quick too but no match for a decent laser.

I have an inkjet A3 and in 2 years I've changed 2 printing head already (clogged nozzles)

Moreover, if you don't use the original inks, the prints tend to fade in few weeks/months, depending on the quality of the refill inks.

I've seen instead, several prints coming from color laser and for my use would be amazing! Crispy colors, sharper print, postscript of emulators to use with vectorial software. Just checking the best for my needs (flyers, menu, leaflets, etc)

Have a look at the dye-sub and wax printers (Xerox Phaser), they tend to do glossy better than a regular laser.

Yes I know, and also a much better use of toner/ink solid make the prints much cheaper than laser or inkjet (original inks)

With apologies to the OP for 'using' his thread, my thanks to Crossy for dealing with my specific query. I'm sold. Mono Laser. Is Samsung the leader or among the leaders for these?

You do understand that a mono laser means monotone; IE black only, right?

Your criteria included producing good quality images, and a mono printer delivers black and white only. They are ideally suited for document printing.

After the horrible experience with the current "CFD" series- particularly CFD-315, I don't consider Samsung (color) laser printers to be the leaders of anything, especially when stacked up against products from companies like HP or Fuji Xerox who are definitely leaders with the roots of their company in the document / printing industry.

Having said that, a Samsung mono laser could be more reliable than their current color lasers- certainly they are less complex machines. Our HP 1100 is a mono, and it has been used daily in an office environment for the last 10 years.

If using infrequently, I'd go w/ a laser. Too many problems w/ inkjet catridges drying out. I recently got disgusted at needing to buy new cartridges when the old ones were practically full. For the price, w/ a couple of extras for next time, I could practically buy a new laser printer (in mono; I don't really need color), so I bought a new Canon LBP 6000. It's great!

Read poor reviews of the Samsung. Fuji seems good but IT City only had a demo model, which I refused to let them sell me as they tried to.

If you budgeted 10-25k baht, that laser printer better be multifunction with duplexing. Brother has great budget black laser printer mfc.

It should be color also. In fact, you could afford 2 printers for that budget.

Canon multifunction for color inkjets.

Copy ink/toner very cheap to find.

Just to add, the 'phasers' are an excellent choice as well, usually comes with life-time free black ink (they include a bunch with every color pack you buy, and can ask for extra if you need).

Only drawback is the warm-up time, they need a LOT of time to become ready (wax has to melt), and prefer to be kept standby. Also they don't like to be moved (cool-down time of several hours)

Print quality is excellent, and you can print on colored (or even black) paper stock as well, as the colored wax melts on top of it.

I have a samsung mono laser and never had any problems with it other than when a cockroach crawled inside and burnt something other than itself. Was fixed under warranty and is still going strong after 5 years

But I have always wanted a "Phazer" printer that prints with wax....... Never knew that they came with a lifetime supply of black which is pretty cool as I do a lot of mono printing.............how much are they nowadays, how much are the colour refills and where can I buy one if they are affordable ??

Cheers

Demo it first using the sort of file you print on the same paper as you print on (take both with you).

If it does what you want, with the quality you need, buy it.

I use to have a top of the line HP 795c that would not print if it sat for over 2 months, heads would get clogged and the driver acted funny.

The Fuji xerox laser i had once sat for 6 months and printed out just fine, lasers dont clog.

On normal paper lasers print better quality and are a bit glossy. But inkjets are better with photo paper. Lasers also have the advantage of waterproof printing.

I wouldnt hesitate to buy another laser, no more inkjets for me.
