Let's move this over to the technology and communications forum.

Topic Moved.

I guess 'the best' is a matter of opinion.

My opinion is that DTAC has the best nationwide coverage at the moment.

It used to be said that AIS had the best signal, but on recent trips around Thailand, including Phuket (patong), samui (chaweng) there were times where the gf's AIS had no coverage, whereas I had good signal at all times.

True is well known for having piss poor service outside of Bangkok.

All over bangkok, and the main areas in phuket, samui I had 3G, if thats a factor for you?

Minimum top up I think is 50b.

Can top up via kasikorn online banking, or the Kbank iphone app also.

I'm on True in Chiang Mai and have traveled a fair bit in Thailand. DTAC has no 3G service in Chiang Mai but True does so I opted for them. Outside of the major cities, no 3G but I do have 2G service (although slow). Not to mention they hand out free SIM cards at the airport ;).

Topping up is easy...you can do it at any 7-11 (and you know they're everywhere). 90 Baht minimum top up I believe. Data packages start at 50 MB/month for 50 Baht. And there are text plans as well. Don't bother with their WiFi packages...their WiFi sucks and you're lucky if you can even login.

also be aware that when accessing the internet from your phone (AIS) you are charged by the minute, not data download useage. So best bet is to buy a promotion package for approx 200/300 baht. It helps to have a Thai person to access the promotion from your phone as they will usually know the best method to access etc

Yes, what are your ultimate plans?

Ais has been good for me for voice and 3g when it is available. If you have a newer smartphone or a phone that utilizes usb tethering, you can utilize tethering to share your internet with laptop or (wifi tethering) other devices that support wifi. I am testing truemove h, for its internet capabilities.

Ps: move to mobile devices forum?

DTAC had no 3 G in Chiang Mai but it has been available with them in CM now for about 2 months and works pretty well. I changed back to them from 1-2-call once 3G was switched on here.

I am fine with prepaid True Mobile and I top up through my online Kasikorn bank account or at 7-11. Minimum amount, I believe is 50 baht all the way up to 1000.
