BANGKOK, 31 March 2012 (NNT) – The Suvarnabhumi International Airport is set to start utilizing the automatic passport check system before the Songkran holidays start.

Suvarnabhumi Airport's Deputy General Manager, Flying Officer Narongchai Tanadchangsaeng, said that the Immigration Department will start opening a number of automatic channels, which offer automatic passport check service, from April 11th.

Initially, the new system will be available for the holders of Thai E-Passport, according to Mr. Narongchai.

He added that 8 machines will be installed at the international departure hall and another 8 will be available at the international arrival hall.

Mr. Narongchai said that travelers whose names are not on the black list will conveniently go through the new passport checking process, which includes passport scan, fingerprint scan and photo taking.

According to official data, an average of 160,000 travelers pass through Suvarnabhumi Airport each day, with 120,000 of them being foreign travelers and the remainder being local passengers.
