Couple Who Met And Got Engaged In A Computer Game Marry In Real Life Despite Looking Nothing Like Their Online Alter-Egos

Featured Replies

On computer screen they were like a movie-star couple.

She with her toned, tanned body, enviable curves and a penchant for not wearing very much. He with an impressive tattoo, rock-god locks and abs you could bounce a 50 pence piece off.

But when Marie and Jay Coulbeck decided to exchange real photographs after their alter egos got engaged in 3D chat room IMVU, the couple from Rugeley found they had bent the truth some what.

With a dress size of 28 – 30 Mrs Coulbeck admits she looked nothing like her size eight alter ego - Goddess of the Orient. But then again divorced fork lift truck driver Jay Coulbeck, 41, didn't much resemble his avatar Gunner, either.

None of it mattered. The couple fell in love and married - for real - in September.

Ooh ahh avatar: Mrs Coulbeck's avatar, Goddess of the Orient, left, had a toned, tanned body with ample cleavage while Mr Coulbeck's character, Gunner, had abs you could bounce a 50p from

True love: When the Coulbeck's exchanged real-life pictures, it was clear neither had been honest about their looks but it didn't matter. They fell in love and married - for real - in September

"Neither had been honest with their looks" ..."the couple from Rugeley found they had bent the truth some what" What a stupid thing to write.

They fell for each others personalities. Im pretty sure neither of them were thinking their avatars were accurate depictions of each other.

Im all for whatever medium brings two people. Its quite touching that a couple would meet and fall in love with each others personalities, rather than looks first.

I wish them the very best together.

  1. It was on the Internet, so it must be true.
  2. Who could even stay in the same room as that great lump of fat?

Geez Humph! ohmy.png

Sorry if it upsets you, Ping (or any other members of this forum) but I find that people who have so little pride in their bodies and appearance are repulsive.

I am not skinny, as a rugby player (and in the scrum) for fifty years I have plenty of body weight, but at 75 my waist is still 10 inches less than my chest. It's just that the whole lot wobbles, rather than stays firm.

I am currently in Cambridge, my home town in UK, which is full of Uni. students and language school students, high-tech developers in science parks, so on. My bedroom window opens out on the river Cam, which has rowers on it all daylight hours, beyond is Stourbridge Common, with people running to and fro all the time. When I go to the shops or town centre I have to dodge more runners and cyclists.

All this is fairly new to me - the rowing and bikes have always been here, but not in the numbers around now. If these people can do it, why do I also see obscenely fat people, like the woman in the photo above, stuggling to waddle round the markets an shops, having to pull themselves on to buses by the handrails, eventually costing the NHS a fortune in medications and generally looking bloody ugly.

Give over, Humph.............

I found my wifey online, here in Thai Visa.

Makes ya wonder how a purty (in my eyes anyway) lil brown skin gal could fall for an older honky guy, 24 years, ln my case.

Hey, she initially accused me of stalking her....... ha ha ha.....blocked me in MSN Messenger.

Well I stalked her to the altar, 2 years ago next month.

Life's bin grand, we are so happy.... life is a cruise.

Ping has met her on Phuket cupla years back.

Humph, you dont know the reason why she is large. For some its due to serious medical problems. For many, emotional/psychological. Im not saying people shouldnt take care of themselves, sort out any health issues etc, but there are many reasons why people have weight issues.

About four years back i was hit with a thyroid illness..took a good year id say to get sorted out. During that time i ballooned (nothing like that lady), but was unreal...i was hardly eating a thing and my weight piled on. I was exhausted too..kept passing out. During that time, with the different medications, i occasionally swung hypo to hyper, and weight dramatically dropped off and i had heart palpitations. The whole thing was a frightening ordeal. Its actually here in Thaivisa, because im thankful that Sheryl put me on to a doctor who finally sorted out my health. Ive been fit and healthy all my life (prior to that illness i was running 10k nearly every day, weight training etc) Im now back to being fit and healthy and working out, but need to take thyroid medication daily. I never look at someone and instantly judge them..we just dont know what their reasons are. ..and even if emotional/psychological, i still sympathise.

..and, some people actually have a fetish for larger bodies.

I DO think that anyone THAT overweight is putting themselves at serious risk and important to do something about it. This lady did say she was depressed, so may have put on much more weight due to that. Hopefully now she has a loving partner, she will take more care of herself.

I understand people with thyroid problems, other medical problems - but most of the people I see in UK and US who are obese are happily doing to themselves. It is becoming a serious problem in UK and will bankrupt the Health Service within a few years. They should change the rules so that people with an excessive BMI are charged for any and all consultations, treatments and prescription.

^ My boyfriend has much the same sentiments regarding Australia Humph(..hes Australian), and i do see your point.

I guess some of the problem may the normalisation of certain behaviours. Ie: what people seem to consider as normal portion sizes..which are in fact outrageously over and above normal. JI remember going to places like the cinema for example, and popcorn and coke were available in sizes that blew my mind. Pig trough of popcorn anyone?

Normalisation of (generally considered) abnormal/unhealthy behaviours is a problem globally.

In the west much of it is regarding food.

While not Christian myself, I think there are some valuable lessons to be learned and one that has generally come true for me (and come back to bite me in the ass) is "Judge not let ye be judged" Call it karma if you want but I I try to refrain from uninformed judgements of people I know nothing about.

I think people often find it easier to demonize a certain group, be it black people, Indians, Thais women or fat people, its all really the same sort of thinking and one I prefer to try and avoid, if only for my own mental health.

As for the idea that they assumed they looked like their avatars, I am with eek, I don't think she looks like a pink cartoon cat why would I assume that about anyone else online?

^ Funny you should post that, saw it just the other day. I believe that girl is a distant relative of mine. Small world.

Loved that video..........I think people overlook the fact that brilliance usually comes from adversity. You could do a massive list of world leaders in their field that had serious issues to contend with.

I was talking to some guys this morning and we were discussing that the biggest failure we have as parents is trying to ensure that our kids don't face the same adversity we did. Then we wonder how they turn out totally different from us.

It takes a lot of rough to make a smooth diamond, I wish that young gentleman and his friend all the best.
