Ok im behind times but ive just learnt that a Thai paying over 100,000 bant tax a year can buy a new car and get 100,000 deducted from their tax bill. further any poor Thai who can only afford 5 million for a house and if that really poor thai pays enough tax they can get a million baht rebate on their tax.

At same time this wonderful government for poor withdraw the old school uniform payment and cant afford to implement the 300 baht minimum wage but can afford to give companies reduced corporation tax now.

What is amazing is casual way Thais we know who are dirt poor and worship Taksin think this is fine . We got school uniform grant last year as did our maid but its gone and excuse to pay for wonderful new tablets.

The poor deserve what they get for being so willing to accept their heroes helping rich thai kids buy their cars and rich Thais reduce their tax. Oh well serves them right.

Come on you Taksin apologists im sure youll be able to justify this total disregard by this government and Taksin for poor. At least in West theirs a bit of shame attached and dont say other lot are as bad

I don't know anyone who claims that Thaksin and his mob genuinely care for the poor.

It's just that he's willing to at least cater to them with the bread & circuses that every democracy uses to win the vote. Nearly all know he just goes through the motions to win their vote, but at least he does that, no one else ever has.

IMO the opposition has their head stuck in the sand wishing this wasn't necessary, it's just beneath them to have to acknowledge that pandering to the common people is part of trying to pretend there's a real democracy as the English-speaking countries do. Face it, in a country where the majority are rural uneducated poor, you have to deign to toss them an occasional bone, at least do just enough to make them think you care.

Of course money really rules most so-called democracies, but you should at least give the idealistic principles some lip service rather than blatantly campaigning to restrict the vote to intelligent educated middle-class and up people only.

Finally, AFAICT most people just want the economy to work, they realize whichever corrupt mafia network is in control doesn't really affect their lives, education will continue to suck, corruption won't go away, just stop bickering and let the country pretend it's got some unity and let everyone just get back to business.

With his elction slogan, everybody will be rich in 6 months,I doubt he catered to the elite.

What's your point? That's just an extreme example of the lip-service pandering I'm talking about.

The reality is he and his cronies are just as elite as the other side from a strictly political/economic POV, only lacking the more direct connection to the historic traditional nobility.

It's just a different mafia elite that's all - my theory about his ouster is that he just got greedy, wasn't willing to share enough around to the other group, tried to shut them out from the bulk of the spoils.

At this point his far greater atrocity is his inadvertant political empowerment of the poor, they're beginning to realize they have real power if they can just figure out how to use it without someone coordinating them from above.

That genie's never going back in the bottle BTW.

And again I am in no way saying he's actually working in the interest of the poor, just seems that way relative to the other side.
