Yes, I read the other thread and decided to create another one because the information was getting old. Regardless, I will try to look around for the best suggestions from that thread.

My dilemma: I'm a big guy(5'10",250lb all-bone ) from California so it's rather difficult/impossible to find any off-the-rack clothing in BKK. I turned 30 recently and I decided that I should get some "mature" clothes, starting with a new black suit and a week's worth of dress shirts. I have an altered off-the-rack suit and some shirts that I bought in the States but I would like something tailored for me. It should "suit" any situation, be it for work or a casual after-work engagement. I'll get a tux later for formal appearances. Anyway, besides google searches, I'm basically in the dark regarding what to do and look for at a tailor. Don't get me wrong. They are there to answer my questions but I'd rather not make a costly mistake before consulting outside parties. One of my former US clients, a retired Secret Service agent, recommended that I go to Rajas? He said that all his buddies here working for the US government go there for their attire. To clarify, I don't want to spend too much at the moment so I can forego the best materials and whatnot. As long as the suit looks good, feels good, will last me for the near-future and is modern (no skinny pants please), it will work for me. I figure that I can drop by a shop on Saturday and finish the process over two weekends. Weekdays are spent at the office. If known, general pricing will be appreciated.

Anyway, let's start it off. Any suggestions?

I always get mine at Rajawongse and pay about 14k.

I have heard a few people recommend Raja's as well but just be sure the Raja you contact is the correct one, here is the link.

Never had a suit done with then, but I have seen them on the Travel Channel a couple of times and apparently have done suits for a couple US Presidents as well.

For pants do not go to Raja's. They have great fabric, shirts are good, Victor is cool but I'm a big guy also and like loose fitting pants. They can't do it. I've gone back a bunch of times for refitting but they can't get it right. They seem to be able to just do a classic fit.

The best I found so far is Jhasper on soi 11 but they're not cheap. The best cheap tailor I have found for loose fitting clothes is soi 15 on the left after the bag shop right near Suk, sorry forget the name. There you get synthetic material though and i wouldn't trust them for a tux.

A good place to begin, even just for advice, is Empire Tailors next to Nana Post Office on Sukhumvit. They are not the cheapest, but they are professional, reliable and trustworthy - as reflected by their Tripadvisor rating.

The shop is managed by 'Sunny' whose late father Suwan originally had a tailor's shop at the USAF base in Udon Thani in the early seventies.

I use Tailor on Ten (check their website out for pricing) for suits and shirts. It is owned by a professional Canadian guy and they have a good selection of quality tissues. They are on Sukhumvit Soi 8 (end of the Soi) and definitely worth a look. Happy tailoring!

Does anybody else notice a pattern in these discussions, relative to other countries anyway. There is NEVER, EVER one business that seems to get the majority of accolades. I find this disconcerting, but I guess it is just part of living here. Anyway, forgive my digression, discuss away

I use Siam emporium on shukhimvet Soi 15, maybe I don't know any better but I like them quite a bit. Good selection of fabrics and a wide price range. I get mine done there as well as the occasional less expensive ones for the Thai family.

Wherever you go, have a look round in the shop and ask yourself why, you never see anyone working in the shop making suits, where are the machinists, where are their tailors.

Dont confuse the idiot who takes your measurements with an actual tailor.

Most of these shops are nothing more than material salesmen.

The material and your details may end up being sent to some sweat shop in Klong Toei.

I've used Nickermann's Boutique and Silk in the past with very good results. I am also big at 6'3 and 260lbs. Clothes were very good quality, reasonably priced, and completed on a timely basis. You will find them in the basement of the Landmark Hotel.
