Expert Advice For Living In Thailand.

Let Thais sort their own problems out, don’t get involved.

Let Thais look after their own business, don’t get involved.

Thais survived long before you came along, let them fund themselves, you don’t owe them anything. (unless you actually do of course).

Don’t loan, don’t borrow. Live your own life without worrying what the locals think of you. If someone wants to loan money, tell them to come and work for it and they won’t have to worry about repaying it.

Don’t worry about what they think of you.

Live where you want to live, buy what you want to buy, do what you want to do.

Don’t invest anything here that you cannot walk away from.

Locals are likely to think of you a fool for being overly generous and giving things/money away.

You’re Western (probably), not Thai, you will never, ever be seen as anything close to Thai unless you go on a Andrew Biggs-esque style mission, don’t try to be Thai, the depth of cultural and social differences are different universes apart and likely to be beyond your comprehension for a number of years.

Watch how Thais treat those that they see as inferior to them to help you understand the true being of 'Thainess'.

Look into (through past news) government, police and army corruption and crimes (murder, torture extortion and bribery), to help see how this country really works.

Research your personal entitlements yourself (vehicle and property ownership etc., even stuff like how to open up the type of bank account you want, and be armed with this knowledge when going to do it.)

How to stay on the Thai side: Don’t criticize, don’t show anger. But be assertive and know what you are talking about.

Sit back and enjoy the show, and everything else this fun, amusing, entertaining country has to offer.

Don’t take it seriously, be your own boss, and hopefully you’ll be as happy as me. :)

Yours, a Thai expert.

Hardly a Thai expert old chap...

Sure am. :)

you never even commented on Sin-sot or the correct procedures when undertaking a Wai

What aspects do you need help with? I'm sure we can help you rid your noobness.

Do you even speak Thai, old, wise, exalted one? If not, I'd say your "expertise" is a tad lacking.

I am correct i assuming that the OP's aka Thai Expert advice could be applicable just about anywhere? If so I am gonna rush to the Burma forum on here and use it with his kind permission. lol

Another one with verbal diarrhea

Another wannabe "I understand how to do in Thailand"

+ Thais are this way or that way.....like the must be all cloned. No one would think that all people in their home country have exactly the same mindset, but they think Thais does....

Or like you say verbal diarrhea

He does not even know how to get rid of rats!!

Is the OP another version TheThaiExpert who lasted around12 posts?

Hardly any expertise in what was written in the OP.

Fluent reader/writer.

Another one with verbal diarrhea

That's not very nice.

Sure Berkshire's post wasn't very thought out, but there's no need to insult him like that.

Naah only Thai he needs is the ability to order a beer and ask how much for a short time...if can do that definite expert on Thailand

Interesting that there's only one 'Popular' post in this thread so far.

That of 'The Expert'.

Of course the haters (you have my pity) are in the house. No doubt that upon reading this their pettiness will demand hitting the 'like this' button of their ilk.

Off you go boys. Make sure to prop up that bar tonight while adding 'mhak mhaak' to the end of your sentences. :)

Another one with verbal diarrhea

Is this Mike or Dow's opinion?

What a pompous "expert ".rolleyes.gif

maybe Dow is Mike's old name?

do you really care whose opinion its the op post "expert" on Thai's OP been here 5 min in thailand never moved out of bangkok from the uk does not know shit

Interesting to see the psychology at work.

Forum poster cannot bring himself to agree with the expert's analysis, despite it being so true, so then has to attempt belittlement via personal attacks that border on delusional.

Please continue Mike (or is Dow having the night off work and is thus helping you keep a good layer of sand over your head?)

^ Shhhh. People might just be able to read that through their rose tinted spectacles....

If their wife is allowing them to use the computer. laugh.png

They could become quite upset when faced with such home-truths.

^ It cuts to the bone with you eh.

Why the foul language and such personal hate?

Be polite please, before you're given a little holiday. (although it seems you could do with one).

He's been a member more than two weeks, and there's no reason to suggest he has not been outwith Bangkok.

I suggest you shove such wild speculation in the appropriate place.

I have lived here off and on for the last 17 years. Looks like sound advise to me. I would add:

Never entirely give up everything in your home country as there is a good chance you may need to return.

Remember that the family is the most important thing in your Thai girlfriend's life.

And.........Never make a bar girl your girlfriend or wife.

Funny how these topics all go the same way.

There must be some bridge construction work going on as General Topics recently, has been inundated with Trolls.

Do you reckon trolls would chase away pigeons, or snakes, or rats or ants?

How much is the normal charge for crossing a bridge?

I think these questions can only be answered by an "expert".
