I'm half swedish and know that murder is a rare occurrence in sweden, but drunkenness and depression are not. I am thinking he was not of sound mind and there were circumstances which we will find out in due course. His girlfriend looks dodgy as hell though.

"His girlfriend looks dodgy as hell though"

I knew it wouldn't take too long before someone would deflect attention from the farang to a Thai. She looks dodgy as hell compared to the farang who (allegedly) brutally murdered another person because of some trivial thing involving a dog. Right. If all else makes no sense, point a finger at a Thai.

Why does Thai law allow bar keepers to continue to sell alcohol to customers that are Drunk?

What a stupid thing to say.

Wow is getting drunk in a bar illegal?

Not such a stupid thing to say. Don't know if it applies in this case, but a responsible bartender will not serve someone who is obviously over intoxicated.

In the west the bar can be held legally responsible if found to be negligent.

Maybe that's why many people come to live here! Every body in the West seems to know what is best for us. I was brought up to be responsible for my actions, it seems now we (the West) want others to make those decissions for us now. Not for me thanks.

Most people are very reponsible for thier own actions and I am sure you are one of those. (as would 95% of other T.V members) Unfortunately some in society are not and it is generally the inocent that get hurt because of the irresponsible actions of others. The only way to try and protect the inocent form the others is to impose laws.

does anyone know if these two people were discussing anything earlier in the evening?

I can't believe this was solely due to patting a dog?!

I would be interested to know if they might have had a disagreement earlier during a conversation?

particularly because Sweden is in the news for other reasons at the moment

Terrible waste of life I hope he gets sent down for a very long time, at 40 + you would think he would have more sense and all over his young girl friend playing with the guys dog. Maybe the young girl will look after the deceased dog !!!!!!

Lets hope he is given the death penalty. An "eye for an eye!"

Yes, given the success of death penalties, cruel punishments (drawing & quartering, floggings etc) in wiping out crime..............hang on it didn't wipe it out at all, did it?

How can you say these penalties were totally unsuccessful? There is no record of anyone who was hung drawn and quartered or put to death in other ways ever committing a crime again.

It doesn't say the dog is deceased.

Why did it bother the dogs owner so much the lady playing with his dog unless she was paying with it the same way she plays with the Viking's. They cannot hold their beer, he will not be tasting any beer for a long long time now, the silly shit.

15 to 20 yrs for sure on this one, he will not have anyone to bring him a bit of food as his lady will do a walky for a replacement. So sorry for the home land guy.

Kiwi Kenny

You could be right, if she is a bargirl and her ATM is taken offline she certainly won't be hanging around when there are planes arriving at swampy every 20 minutes or so. I doubt if she will be shedding any tears as farangs only mean one thing to them. That is "IF" she is a B/Girl When the money is gone so are your good looks, Handsome Man.

Other reports now state that his Thai girlfriend told police that when they entered the bar the dog came towards them barking aggressively and a argument occured...Hollick then left the bar and sometime later the Swedish guy Ringvall saw Hollick walking past the bar with his dog and stabbed him multiple times in the upper torso...

Hollick is a part owner in Top Dog Personal...a mining hire company based out of Western Australia supplying workers for earth moving ...Copy rights maybe infringed if I supply the newslink...sorry but that's all I know! RIP

It is making the news here in NZL now.

These things really dont help.

I have a Thai wife and we would like to semi retire there in the future ( not Pattaya ).

But this constant bad news from Thailand is making my wife afraid to live there.

A thai person!

It is almost weekly.

I knew one of the people that deceased a couple of years ago in Phuket. He was 100% good guy.

Bag snatch for gods sake.

Thanks for that, yes, I see I even got a mention on the NZHerald (lucky me!). My partner is also Thai, and simply rolled her eyes when I told her where it happens.

I have not told her of the interesting folks I run into when I go out drinking with my friends from time to time in places you would not expect to find lunatics. But as another poster said here, it is not so much the people that have big heads in establishments that are often dangerous, as the ones that men continue to take home without anyone knowing they are going with someone and end up in very bad situations.

I guess that at least they are not (yet) having the home invasion problems that much of the western world has, or the random shootings that are taking place in parts of the Philippines and also in the south of Thailand (where my girlfriend is from).

Maybe one day we can have a beer together many years from now when we retire! smile.png

Huh?! That's really a stupid reply, perhaps written under the influence, because nowhere did indyuk suggest that it should be illegal to get drunk in a bar, just that - for the bartender - it should be illegal to keep serving once a person is drunk. It's illegal in several countries.

And rightly so. It is to protect the sot from himself. Anybody getting drunk late at night in Pattaya is just begging to become a victim of the hovering sharks.

When people can still mumble or gesture clearly enough to order a new drink, they aren't too drunk.

Countries making laws which impose on the bartenders to make sure their customers don't get too drunk are nanny states. Don't need that over here.

Swede kills Kiwi Man In Drunken Fight Over Dog

PATTAYA:--A New Zealand man died after being stabbed by a Swede in a drunken bar fight, triggered by the victim’s dog. The Swede’s Thai girlfriend had wanted to play with the dog, but the Swede forbade her. This angered the Kiwi man, so they began fighting.

PATTAYA – 21, 2012 [PDN]; at 1:40 a.m, a report of a man being stabbed in a fight between two foreigners was received by Pol. Maj. Seksan Reuvet, Inspector, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province. He rushed to the scene with the rescue officer of Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation.

The incident occurred in front of a beer bar complex near Alligalordge hotel in Soi Diana near Soi Buakhao Moo 9,Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

Police arrived at the scene and discovered the victim lying on the ground, surrounded by a crowd of onlookers. He appeared to be a foreigner and was shirtless, wearing only shorts with a small waistbag. There were tattoos all over his body.

The man was unconscious and barely breathing. He had been stabbed twice in the back and once in his neck. He was still bleeding from his wounds.

The police inspected his waistbag and found some cash and a bank credit card identifying him as Mr. Robert E. Hollick, age 43, from New Zealand. The rescue officer performed first aid and rushed him to Pattaya Memorial Hospital, but Mr. Robert later died from his wounds.

Meanwhile, bystanders were restraining the stabbing suspect and his Thai girlfriend for the police. He was identified as Mr. Andreas Ringvall, age 40, from Sweden. His girlfriend was Ms. Dao Pholutsa, age 26, address 54 Moo 10 Tambon Nongtakrong, Amphur Lahansai, Burirum province.

Both of them were drunk and had bloodstains on their clothes. Police recovered the weapon, a 1-foot-long fruit knife that was stained with blood.

When the police initially questioned Mr. Andreas, he refused to say anything. However, his drunken girlfriend Ms. Dao shouted loudly that her husband was beaten first by the other man, so he had to protect himself.

This made the crowd of onlookers angry. They began shouting and scolding the couple, saying that they were the troublemakers who had started the fight.

But Ms.Dao shouted back and scolded the people. They got so angry that fighting near erupted between the two sides. So the police hurried to take the two troublemakers away from the scene to investigate at Pattaya police station.

According to Komchadleuk, the argument started when Hollick, the deceased, walked in the bar with his dog. Ringvall's 26 year old Thai wife Dao, tried to pick up the dog and play with it which resulted in Ringvall telling her to leave the dog alone because he didn't like dogs and swearing at her. Hollick took exception to this and an argument and fight ensued with punches being thrown. Both Ringvall and Dao were described as being drunk.

The fight was broken up and Ringvalll and Dao went home only to return with Ringvall seeking out Hollick, the fight starting up again and Hollick ending up stabbed. The couple tried to flee but bystanders detained them. When police arrived at the scene, Dao tried to claim Hollick had attacked her husband first and he had reacted in self defence. A crowd of angry Thai bystanders who had witnessed the events then gathered round and berated her for this version of events and when she argued back things began to turn ugly and police had to whisk the couple away for their own safety. Ringvall so far refused to answer any questions.

Part of the reason I live here is to avoid people like this. When you hear stuff like this, it really saddens you.

That person stabbed in the neck could have been anyone.

RIP.

This sort of thing doesn't only happen in Thailand, there are looneys in every country, despite some of the things that happen here, I still think Thailand is one of the safest countries in the world to live.

There are always folks that want defend their life choices by arguing that the level of crime, corruption and dishonesty is the same in Thailand as every other country, regardless of what the numbers say. According to intentional homicide statistics, Thailand is more dangerous than every developed country by far except the US, which is still safer than Thailand:

And there are surveys that show different outcomes! Just depends on which one you chose :)

New Zealand National allegedly stabbed to death by Swede in Central Pattaya

21_08_55_1_6.jpg

PATTAYA:--A New Zealand national was allegedly stabbed to death by a Swedish man in the early hours of Tuesday outside a Bar in Soi Diana Inn, Central Pattaya.

Police and rescue services were called to the area, in front of the Areca Lodge Hotel and were confronted by an angry mob who claimed to have witnessed the Swede, Mr. Andreas Ringvall aged 40 use a fruit knife to stab Mr. Robert E. Hollick aged 43, twice in his neck. Mr. Hollick was rushed to Hospital but was pronounced dead-on-arrival. Members of the public were able to detain Mr. Ringvall and his Thai Wife, Khun Dow aged 26. She was extremely vocal in defending the actions of her Husband, which she claimed was self-defence.

Mr. Ringvall remained silent throughout the initial arrest and questioning later at Pattaya Police Station. A Taxi-Motorbike driver, Khun Muan, witnessed the incident and said that a confrontation between the two men occurred on the street. Khun Dow was allegedly seen to slap the face of Mr. Hollick, while the two men verbally confronted each other. Seconds later Mr. Ringvall was seen to stab Mr. Hollick. Khun Muan and others then rushed Mr. Ringvall and his wife and detained the pair.

Khun Supipar aged 47, who works for a Bar close to the scene of the altercation claimed that Mr. Ringvall and his wife were sitting and drinking in her bar before the altercation. Everything appeared normal until Mr. Hollick arrived with his pet dog which caught the attention of Khun Dow who took the dog to her Husband, Mr. Ringvall who disliked the animal and used bad language towards Mr. Hollick. The altercation in the street then occurred.

Your right he owns a recruitment company in Perth Australia and was semi retired living in Pattaya. You can post links and a portion of the article without breaching copyright.

Staff member Vanessa Nunn said Hollick set up the company about seven years ago. It specialised in finding earthmoving workers for West Australia's mining and civil construction industries.

Hollick had been semi-retired and living in Pattaya for some time, she said.

She heard about Hollick's death from one of his friends in Thailand who phoned to say he had passed.

Entries on the Old Friends website said Hollick went to Upper Hutt College in the 1980s. He had no children and was never married

Strange this has not been reported in the NZ press that I have found. Shame on the NZ press. Could there be more to this story? Unless the Swede was really over it drowned in alcohol, I don't know a sane person that would react this way.

I found it is quite difficult avoiding aggressive people at times in Thailand, because you do not know the guy you are saying a friendly hello to at the bar, restaurant or the club. Because they come from different cultures, it is harder to "sniff out" Jabba the Hutt, you may believe you are talking with Princess Laya, but infact you are talking with a Wookie..

Really?

I have travelled over most of the USA several times. come from the UK, and have lived in Thailand for 7 years. I feel much safer here than anywhere else I've ever been.

I knew it wouldn't take long before someone made out my comment was a generalization about thai people. I'm certainly not sticking up for the swedish guy and it just might turn out that she's an accomplice to murder if you care to read the reports.
