was thinking to get a new smartphone.

been through all the reviews on cnet, etc...

came across the moto razr maxx, an ics phone with a 3,300 mAh battery, according to reviews it can last for an amazing 17 hours of talk time.

went to the TGfone @ the mall bang kapi, and almost bought it.

When I realised,

there werent any accessories for sale??? No screen protector, case nor car charger was available at all. None of the shops (small mobile shops, jaymart, tgfone) had them.

It’s a great phone, with android 4.0.4 and the 17 hours talk time. Too bad Motorola/ Google didn’t get any accessories on shelves in the mall bang kapi/ tawanna/ happyland.

accessories is kinda important (when it comes to smartphones)

Where can I get my hands on the accessories????? MBK???

Well I dont think its google or motorola that put the accessories on the shelf in the small shops. The phone is new. You will be able to get accessories from distributer who I think is Advance ( not sure) its SIS not Advance.

I have a Defy Plus. With the shock and water resistance plus the Gorilla glass screen, I just carry it in my pocket and don't worry about it. It's easy to find a case. The phone shops have hundreds of different cases and I did buy one but didn't use it. My wife grabbed it and uses it for her Samsung. My next phone will be a Razr Maxx.

You should be able to find screen protection - I think the front of the unit is the same as the RAZR - and a car charger (doesn't it just have a micro-USB connector?) pretty easily. Not sure about a case given the additional thickness. Maybe source that from the U.S.?

FOCUS seems to be the primary screen protection here although I always use ZAGG (not available here).

Found in 15 sec. http://giftshoper.tarad.com/product.detail_872436_th_4354361

It seems unusual to leave the perfect 17,000 baht smartphone on the table for lack of a 100 baht screen protector or car charger?

Unless the charger is proprietary I'd be shocked if you couldn't find any/all accessories you need here, esp. at MBK.

I just swapped out iphone 4s for a Razr MAXX. It is fabulous. Battery last all day no matter what you do to it (and I stream out live videos for hours on end).

The kevlar case means you don't need a case/holder.

You can use bluetooth keyboard/mouse headphones, mic etc.. no problem. What other accessories do you want? Its USB connects direct to any computer without needing drivers.

If you really want accessories you can get Motorola webtop compliant accessores such as dock with keyboard, or webtop fullscreen viewing for large screens. But such are expensive, and not necessary IMO. You can get the screen full size via standard HDMI cable

BTW it is NOT a new phone, as the MAXX has been out for 6 months aleady - just it was only available on Verizon 4G. The GMS version only came out in July, but accessorywsie it is the same as the 4G or the standard Razr.

I got a screen guard for it in The Mall, Bang Kae no problem.

bought the razr maxx last night.

cant find the car charger with the same Amp, guess will have to use the samsung 750mA car charger which i used for the galaxy s2 and gnex.

bought the "rock case" + screen protector @ MBK

http://www.obostore.com/rock-quicksand-series-hard-faceplate-case-skin-for-motorola-razr-maxx-p-6456-c-153.html

tend to drop my phone often, the case is a must for me. cant find the polymer/ silicone case, have to do with the hard case.

anyway; still unable to find the 850mA car charger. dont really like to get things on the internet. any idea if i can use the 750mA car charger?

I prefer to get phones from tgfone/jay mart/ ais. Can't be too sure what kinda of handsets the other shops r selling.

Had a real bad experience when I bought the Nokia n70 with a mobile shop at MBK.

I just looked at the charger for my Defy Plus and the output is 5.1 volt and 850 mA. The charger for my E52 Nokia went PFFFFT so I use it for the Nokia also. It seems to work OK.

Do you really need a car charger for the Maxx? I can't imagine taking a trip so long that that massive battery would run down.

It is pretty easy to source an integrated battery/case for most phones today so if you don't want to get locked into lugging around a really heavy phone all the time, and want to be able to swap batteries, you can get any phone, then just get a battery/case.

I have a 2,000 mAh expanded battery/back cover for my SGS2, and just got a battery/case with a 2,500 mAh battery in it for extended usage. I've gone 3+ days with this set-up. But I can take the phone out anytime I want. A bit more flexibility, for some?

Pictures are for the SGS3 battery case, so 3,000 mAh. ~ 400 baht on Suapa Road.

Pics added for my SGS2 battery/case.

Lomo. Do you have to charge those separate to the phone or can you leave it on and charge the phone and battery case together?

Sent from my GT-P1010 using Thaivisa Connect App

You can charge any/all independently or together. So you can charge the case alone, charge the phone alone (obviously) or charge the phone and the case with the phone in the case. Essentially you deplete the phone's internal battery then switch to the battery in the case via a power switch on the back. Again, this just gives you a lot of flexibility with any phone. No need to lug around a heavy phone all the time, or even purchase a phone with an inaccessible battery. You could even just get a regular RAZR, and an optional battery/case, if you are stuck on the MotoBlur launcher/bloat.

Moto Bloat is now optional on the newer phones. I didn't install it on my Defy Plus. Just Android is still too bloated but it's OK. I get on average five days on my battery because I use an APM toggle on and off. I really don't like a smart phone so a phone that can do everything on demand suits me better.

Been with the galaxy s2 and nexus. Samsung phones ain't good at reception at all.

No problems with my SGS1 & SGS2. What do you mean by reception problems? Presumably your RAZR MAXX is working fine?

BTW, USB connectivity works fine with the extended case/battery.

Where is this shop on Suapa Road? near any landmarks? Website?

And a charger sometimes you need a specialized USB cords. Not all usb cords are the same. Some are rigged outside USB official specs to enable proper (rapid) battery charging and simultaneous data transfer.

Sua Pa Road, both sides between Charoen Krung and Chao Khom Rop (General Hospital) Roads, basically a dozen or so multi-story gathering of hundreds of shops each, with sidewalk-based shops surrounding. This is where everyone with a mobile phone shop goes for stock. Already wholesale but significant discounts for purchases of three or more of the same item. Police routinely invade, trademark infringement ( Paul Frank and Hello Kitty patrols when I was there this week ) so shops are opening and closing in waves in advance of the police.

I just use whatever USB cables I got with my phones - they all work fine for charging and/or data. Some generic cables support only charging, others maybe more susceptible to failure from fatigue owing to less than ideal specs, material, manufacturing techniques.

Is Sua Pa Road near any BTS stations? What part of bangkok?

How can you differentiate between the ones selling legit products vs knockoffs? Is it the usual obvious or are there certain invoices you must obtain.

Sua Pa Road is in Chinatown/Yoawarat. Map attached.

Note that this area is just for mobile phone ACCESSORIES, in keeping with the original post, rather than phones. For phones the box shops in MBK remain the best outlet re: prices, for original/official product, unless your regular phone shop sells to you at wholesale - which they should assuming you give them a fair amount of business.

Everything here is a knockoff. wink.png

Is that case/charger not available in MBK?

How much extra time does it give you?

Is there much increase in weight/bulk?

Posted (edited)

Is that case/charger not available in MBK? It may be, I did not look. Typically Sua Pa offers ~ 25% discount over what shops in MBK might sell it for,

How much extra time does it give you? A stock SGS2 battery is 1,650 mAh, the extra case is 2,500 mAh, so a total of 4,150 mAh. In my case I have the SGS2 Extended Battery, 2,000 mAh, so with this case I have a total of 4,500 mAh. Figure at least double, as a conservative SWAG.

Is there much increase in weight/bulk? Yes, there is increased with and bulk, I guess that seems obvious? But the nice thing is that you can always take the phone out of the case, if you want a lighter, less bulky phone. Obviously with the RAZR MAXX you do not have this flexibility.

I agree. But its the sleek look + the crazy 3,300 mAh battery that has caught my attention. I don't really like bulky phones or cases to make it look bulky.

Anyway to battery's lasting 2 days,on average. Guess it is good enough.

From the map, I guess sua pa is somewhere near the klong tom market?

So is it still two separate batteries....i'm trying to picture how you are implementing the 4000 mAh. Does the case connect the two batteries together to be used in series or parallel?

Maybe i could find a cheap battery cover for the Samsung Galaxy Cooper.

I now realize that this is the china town that is near Little India / India Emporium (Pahurat). I remember I kept walking and walking until we ran into china town. A lot of walking, but worth it to comb out the deals and find the reputable people.

Paid 700 baht for this 3200mah suit of armour ... Bit bulky but if you don't want to carry a mili type charger then not a lot of choice. Chose this over the pictured (seen at 500 baht) due to stand and screen cover.
