MP urges Thai women: Marry a farang for an easier life

BANGKOK: -- A Thai MP has gotten into hot water over his controversial suggestion for poor Thai women who want an easy life: “find a farang husband.”

Pheu Thai MP Sunai Julphongsathorn’s words caused a barrage of complaints on Thai web forums after a clip of his comments (embedded below) surfaced on YouTube recently.

The 12-minute video was apparently shot on August 19 at a seminar at a school in Samut Prakan.

Sunai tells the audience of around 1,000 red shirts to find a farang husband for an easy life “because European governments give you everything for free.”

Sunai went on: “Get a German husband. Get a Swedish husband. Get a Norwegian husband. People used to love [Thailand] unreservedly. But the more they loved the country, the poorer they got. The more they loved the country, the stupider they got.”

“All you need is a farang husband and their government will pay you to study,” he said. [more…]

I assume Sunai was speaking tongue in cheek, but in any case I wouldn't count on European governments having the money to throw around much longer. Reality is hitting profligate governments where it hurts.

Although I find what he has said totally inappropriate for a person occupying his position, I must also admit that his words don't represent anything news to me; infact, that's what most Thai people think and they're quite right too. Places such as Pattaya are the perfect example of this "philosophy".

If this guy is not being a <deleted>, and raising, in his humble opinion, an issue he has thouroughly thought through, lets just consider;

Making use of a foreign husband, however, are you going to enact any legislation to make it easier for foreign husbands to stay?

Or do you just want them, the dopey rich farangs, to get married, and then piss off back to farang leaving an ATM card for all expenses of their spouse, never to bother Thai soceity again except for the occasional brief holiday were the farang will be barely tolerated.....

This oxygen thief is a direct result of a system that allows children of the ultra wealthy to constantly under achieve throughout their schooling years, yet still walk away with honours degrees, and then do a post graduate study in sychophantic asshol_e licking after graduating from which they are duly given a party list seat with no political experience whatsoever. Lets face it, in any of the Western countries this guy would be out of a job this evening, more than likely as a result of resigning to deflect the shame from his party.

My wife went up the f##+& wall when I showed her this. How about teaching Thais English first, that might be a way to go? I get women asking me every day to 'get them a Farang'. I say ok, learn English first, no problem.

Yeah. Marry a stupid farang. One who is so stupid to believe in the sanctity of life, who believes in equal opportunity, and has expectations of clean government.
