Noel Gallagher brings his new act to Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- Thais turned out en masse to catch British rockers Oasis when they played here back in early 2005. The band has of course split but now there's a chance to see founding member Noel Gallagher's new outfit High Flying Birds.

Gallagher, who'll be backed by Mikey Rowe on keyboards, Tim Smith on guitar, Russell Pritchard on bass and Jeremy Stacey on drums, will be playing at Hall 106 of the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (Bitec) Bangna on Thursday at 7pm before heading to Singapore for "F1 Rocks!", where he'll join Maroon 5 and Katy Perry for two nights of shows prior to Sunday's Grand Prix.

Santi "Freddy" Samithisawad, managing director of Rock N' Rolla Corporation, was joined by Narongsak Thongwattanavanich, managing director of Computer Label Worldwide, Norasate Mudkong aka DJ Seed and musician Julachak "Hugo" Chakrapong at the recent press conference for "Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds Live in Bangkok" recently at Easton Grand Hotel's Surasak Room.

"Noel is considered a real rock VIP in England so it's a great honour for me to play on the same stage. And my ad hoc band features the greatest rock musicians of our days," says Hugo, who will be opening for High Flying Birds.

Fans can expect the British rocker to play songs from his self-titled debut and new album as well as "Don't Look Back in Anger", "Live Forever" and "Wonderwall".

Tickets cost from Bt1,000 to Bt3,000 at Thai Ticket Major counters. Call (02) 262 3456 or visit to www.ThaiTicketMajor.com.

For more information, call Rock N' Rolla at (02) 955 9783 or visit Facebook/NoelLiveConcertBangkok.

Oasis. One of the most overrated bands ever. And now Noel is doing lame country rock music. Think I'll pass

Overrated? How so? I think Oasis's limitations have always been fairly well publicised, especially among the music press. The fact is, he has written music which is synonymous with the youth hood of many Brits, especially the working class, and there's going to be a lot of people there on Thursday who'll be treated to what I'm sure will be an awesome show by a genuine, un-pretensious member of rock-star royalty.

Oasis... You either love em' or hate em' I guess.

With me coming from Manchester I like them because they just remind me of growing up.

To be fair though, I would be more interested in seeing Hugo the opening act. He's a very talented artist in my opinion.

Well said, Noel Gallaghers input to rock and roll over the past 20 tears has been phenomenal, an extremely talented musician/song writer.

Just hope the poor Thai suckers who waste money to see this, don't go away thinking that this is British culture.

The poor 'thai suckers' as well as all the farangs who invest in a ticket for the show will be treated to a spectacular evening no doubt. NGHFB's tour has been a huge success to date. An extremely talented artist will be taking to the stage on Thursday, if you are British you should be proud of Noel.

Hmmmmm, of an era perhaps. What happened them and to punk rock ?. Been and forgotten but real stuff is still being played 60 years on from unforgeable performers.

dam_n, I'm getting old.. I never heard of him. Maybe it's a Brit thing.

no, its an old thing. &0, million records and counting world wide since 1995

I can never tell which Gallagher is which. is this the mildly reprehensible one or the extremely reprehensible one.

One is supposed to be the smart one, right?

Personally I think the guy is a complete <deleted>, if one man sums up the chav culture so prevalent in the Uk today its this prick.

I will stick to listening to The Stone Roses and Joy Division, never owned and never will own an Oasis album, hyped up by the music press, much like that other tosser Kurt Cobain.

This is a decent year. I went down to Singapore to see the Stone Roses in July and now NG'sHFB in Bangkok. I wasn't a huge Oasis fan but Noel's band seem to have some very listenable songs and any Thai fans who will probably enjoy themselves too.

Just hope the poor Thai suckers who waste money to see this, don't go away thinking that this is British culture.

And of course they're part of British culture, a very tiny small little part, but part of it nonetheless. However, according to Bumpkin, British culture means...

I can't believe some people would waste their time on this thread commenting on how others are wasting their money on seeing Noel Gallagher and calling him a talentless this and that. I could never imagine jumping onto a thread about Lady Gaga and sharing my contempt for her with a bunch of people who are paying to go and see her perform. Anyhow,,.

Come on, you can't accuse Noel Gallagher of summing up chav culture and then mention the Stone Roses in postive terms (I love the Roses by the way). Ian Brown? The guy screams chav!

And HandsVilder, am I to presume that you're posting at 3.49am as you've been up all night writing your novel, or playing backgammon down the British club? Of course you have mate.

Well said mate.

I’m amazed at some of you guys calling NG a <deleted>. The guy is a genuine legend in UK and anyone that knows anything would list him as a favorite act. Quite simply, if you don’t like NG you are probably a <deleted> yourself who likes Phil Collins or something equally as <deleted>.

Oasis made a massive impact on the 90’s music scene for all the right reasons. In the 70’s and 80’s, most young blokes liked good old British punk and rock, ten pints on a Friday night and a row at the football. In the late eighties and early 90’s all these same blokes started going to raves, dropping pills, and hugging each other. I was one of them. Girl bands made an appearance and female lead singers of rock bands singing about peace and love came about. Oasis popped into the scene with a “fuc_k this, lets be lads again” attitude and reminded we Brits what it’s all about to be British.

NG is probably one of the best song writers to come out of UK in decades and despite the chav reference of another poster, he is erudite, intelligent and brilliantly witty: it’s almost impossible to win an argument with the bloke and he has come out with some of the best one liner put downs I have ever heard.

If I can find a way to get tickets, I will be going for certain. I remember having tickets to see Oasis at Wembley Stadium with a load of mates around 2001 and didn’t make it out of the pub, unfortunately. I’ve always regretted that. I also missed them in 2005 in BKK and regret that even more. I will definitely be going this time around and will love every minute of it. Quality bloke, quality band, quality songs.

At least Kurt's band Nirvana put out albums of musical merit are worth listening to from beginning to end. Not just a few soaring sing-a-long pop FM radio anthems like Oasis did. And Noel's new stuff is just boring. His hair remains Brit-pop-perfect, however

"Quite simply, if you don’t like NG you are probably a <deleted> yourself who likes Phil Collins or something equally as <deleted>"

Probably am a <deleted>, been called worse.

Agree with the comment ref Phil Collins and other equally <deleted> music.

Have already mentioned two bands I like, are they <deleted>?

"Oasis made a massive impact on the 90’s music scene"

Agreed, but we had seen it all before, what did they bring that was new, back to The Stone Roses again, eg ripped them off.

"In the late eighties and early 90’s all these same blokes started going to raves, dropping pills, and hugging each other'

Agreed, one of my favourite groups at the time was The Beloved (you may remember, This Means War, A Hundred Words etc?) they to turned to <deleted> and went all techo craze crap.

"NG is probably one of the best song writers to come out of UK in decades"

Depends on your definition of a song writer, personally I wouldnt rate him above, Morrissey, Paul Weller or another favourite of mine, Robin Hitchcock.

What has the guy released that could be considered as ground breaking or seminal, lets say on a par with Talk Talks Spirit Of Eden or Laughing Stock (come back Mark Hollis get this band back together) or Primal Screams Psychedlica?

Enjoy your concert, I know what its like to be starved of decent music here, I wont be in attendance,

I will "be back at home with The Beatles and The Stones"

And yes I still think the guy is a <deleted>.
